Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

It works, after a lot of reading, but it works!

So I was a previous Sprint user, but I ported out to Tmobile pay as you go (using digital sim card from ebay), then ported back into sprint's BYOD. Then i ported my wife's phone from verizon into the plan. The phone numbers in the FAQ all work still.

From what I'm seeing theres something called "Spending Limit Program Charge - $7.99 for all devices" <--- I don't get this. Ok it says "Waived account spending limit" so that's not it. and this:

Unlimited - Bring Your Phone
Unlimited Talk, Text and Data.
$5/line/mo up to 5 lines. (up to $60/line value free with AutoPay until 3/31/20)
Requires $5 per line/per month AutoPay discount.
Savings until 3/31/20; then $60/mo. for line 1, $40/mo. for line 2 and $20/mo./line for lines 3-5 with AutoPay
DVD-quality streaming

Nothing more and thank you for the replies.
What's your billing details say? Under your "Plan & Equipment" it should be $0, then there should be a breakdown on "Sprint Surcharges" and "Government Taxes & Fees"

I activated 2 phones on this plan. 1 had some mint mobil time left and I figured I would let it run. Well 3 weeks after activation through sprintI put the SIM in and it says account limitations. They tell me the account is past due, which I argue how is that possible when it was just setup on 8 January and has auto-pay setup?! They don't know. After 30 minutes on the phone with horrible customer service they tell me that the account was flagged automatically for fraud because there had been no use on it. They explained that they review after 30 days of service and that is what happened, though it had only been 21 days since activation. If this wasn't near free service for my kid I would cancel and go with a competent provider; I guess you get what you pay for.

Thank you for the detailed info. Very much appreciate it. Wow that blows as I was thinking the opposite. That a truly unlocked Note 9 would easily switch to Tmobile. Sprint by itself is very lacking network wise as we all know, but seamless roaming with Tmobile should make it more than liveable.

So to get the best benefits of seamless roaming on Tmobile and VoLTE, I should purchase a Sprint branded Note 9? Would a Sprint branded Note 9 work on Verizon just in case I have to go back? They are relatively cheap selling as new on Swappa at $699 or so.

Thanks again!

Some of what I wrote is in the future tense (near-future I believe).

It is quite a complicated situation with Samsung models.

When a model (S8, Note 8, S9. Note 9) is first released, the branded version cannot be moved between carriers at all. During that period, the unbranded model is the only one that can be moved freely between carriers (but with limited common functionality)..

Then, x months later (edog11 here is the expert on what x is) Samsung .releases what it calls the BYOD update to the firmware if the branded model. From that point on, you can brand switch from any brand to any other brand (Verizon to Sprint, Sprint to Verizon, whatever) and get 100% every-last-feature functionality just be inserting a sim of the new carrier and activating on the new carrier. At that point, any branded model is better than the unbranded model on any carrier.

We have gone into the second phase for S8, N8, S9, but not quite yet N9. However, edog11 sees signs it could be soon.

Once that happens, yes you can buy the Sprint (or any branded) model, unlock it, and use it on any carrier with 100% feature set. Or you can buy the Sprint model now in anticipation that that will be the case shortly and you can move it to Verizon then..

edog11 is tracking these dates very closely and thinks this may happen in the coming weeks for N9. I would follow his posts on this subject.

Other people have reported that too.

It is use it or lose it.

I believe it is in some posts (post-edited).

I believe it is in the Wiki.
I figured it was reported in the 2300+ pages, but tried to search and couldn't find it, also skimmed the wiki and didn't see it, but its a huge ass wiki so I could have overlooked. Just seems messed up their 30 day review happened at 21 days, they read a ton of terms for reason they disconnect when you sign up but didn't mention anything about lack of use, and that they flag as past-due when it is on auto pay and before the billing date.

edit: there is one for not using for an "extended period of time", but I wouldn't call a few weeks that. I updated with my 21 day experience.

Yeah I found one here:

https://slickdeals.net/f/10235008-sprint-byod-1-year-unlimited-talk-text-data-free-w-eligible-device-sim-req?v=1&p=102006692&src=SiteSearch#post102006692

I think not using a line at all may be the greatest risk. I originally got several lines and really was using just one but did at least use the others once or twice and had no problems.

Yep, that is the same person that posted the info in the wiki. I was told it is a "30 day review", that instance was less than 2 weeks. I guess it is a generous offer they are making and they want people to use it immediately.

I don't currently have sprint compatible phones. I want to change phone numbers anyway. Probably going to use Google Voice numbers. I currently have service with Verizon.

I've decided that cost/value ratio I'd like to go with the Essential Phone:
I could get refurbs around $230(meh)
OR
Best Buy currently has Sprint Essential for $8.74/month bringing it to $240 New.
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/esse...Id=5938400

Could I purchase 2 of these and port my verizon number over to sprint on a postpaid plan, then immediately pay off the balance? As it's Installment Pricing, and not a lease?

Then cancel service with sprint by either porting out or whatever is easiest.

Then using a different SSN and name(Gf's) sign up for the sprint BYOD plan with the GoogleVoice numbers and those 2 Essential Phone IMEI's?

Or will this somehow be flagged by sprint?

Recent posts by Desi and HunterOne suggest to me Essential is dated now - will get weak reception. No HPUE.

Desi likes LG G6 or G5.

G6 has HPUE, may get VoLTE.

Or Samsung S8 branded version has VoLTE and HPUE now and is on sale all over.

Just some thoughts - your priorities may be different from mine.

I was trying to stay under $250 per phone with something actually decent that will last a year or 2. The last good samsung was the Note 4. I've had issues with every single samsung phone we've owned since...
Aside from this thread, I never hear anything good about LG phones.

The switch to a sprint free plan from what I'm paying verizon right now is worth it. I just want to have a decent phone to do so. I have heard about the essential signal issues but thought it got VoLTE which is fine for me. Guess not...

To me VoLTE and HPUE are all important. Otherwise you have mediocre voice and mediocre data.

I checked further and you are right, PH-1 may get Sprint VoLTE now in some areas:
https://www.reddit.com/r/essentia...int_volte/
I have corrected my original post on that. It should be getting it wideky later I assume.

Note 4 had simultaneous Voice and Data. Maybe that was one of the things you liked about it. That is back again once you have VoLTE (which however is only rolling out).
