Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

T-Mobile porting usually takes 30 minutes or less to complete if everything goes well. A few other people are also having issue porting to T-Mobile these past few weeks. Contact the T-Force team [t-mobile.com] and remind them that the FCC rules require simple number porting (wireless number to wireless number) to be processed within one business day [fcc.gov], and they should not accept the port request and let the number stuck in limbo if they can't process it within one business day. Not everyone can afford to let their number stuck in limbo, especially if that is their only number in which they may need it for any emergency situation. Hope they solve your issue soon. Make more love!

Contacted T-Force earlier today, and the conclusion for today is not very encouraging:

Thank you for your patience here, I really appreciate it! I spoke to our number transfer team about the two numbers here and I didn't come away with the answers I was hoping for. The most information they could give me was that we were waiting on the ports to finish processing, and that our tools would send a text message once it completed. They weren't able to give me a specific time frame unfortunately, but it should be soon! I would like to follow up with you on this so that we can make sure you don't have to repeat any thing to another team member here, you've got me through the end here!

I just ported out to RedPocket, from the Free Sprint plan (after being with them for 1 year), about a week back. Today, I went to Sprint's site a few minutes ago and did a check for my phone number with a different phone IMEI number (from the one I had with Sprint earlier), and it says I am eligible?

At what point will I find out for sure that I am not eligible yet, since I am aware that it takes at least 30-45 days to get back while using the same SSN?

You and your ssn wouldn't be considered a eligible "new customer" before the 45 day threshold, but as the wiki suggests you can try after a month by calling the byod line.

My first porting attempt online was over a weekend when T-mobile was reportedly making changes to their system. I got an onscreen confirmation including account number, but never received an email confirmation nor did the port ever complete. Tried calling the regular T-mobile support and all they did activate the SIM without porting the number so I was basically worse off after that call. Found this porting number online (1-877-789-3106) and got them to release my number from porting process. Tried again online since I had done two other lines successfully and it worked fine the second time. Number was ported within only a couple minutes and the Sprint system updated not long afterwards so I was able to complete the port back in under new account holder.

As others have noted, if you choose to do the online T-mobile porting method, write down or screenshot the account number that shows up as part of the online confirmation after going through the final step to request the port.

Yeah everyone here has been a lot of help with my questions so far as well.

Did you already own it or did you purchase it recently? If so, what price and where?
Used, New, etc?
Hows the signal for you?
I purchased the Essential phone new, from Amazon, last August, for $220.
I only activated it today with the BYOD. I am getting zero to three bars. The same sim card, on Sprint, consistently gave me four bars on a MotoG 5SPlus.

Look we do them all the time routinely starting on Day 1.

These SALES reps know absolutely nothing as has been proved countless times. They can rarely even get the plan dates right. Or anything else. All they have is their schemes and distortions and misrepresentations to try to get you to buy things from them.

Yes I do them routinely and so do hundreds of others here.

Not one single person out of thousands of posts has lost the free plan for doing IMEI SWAPS with SUPPORT.

And do them with Chat or starting on your dashboard in my opinion. (Though there is one poster here who does do them through TeleSales ok as well).
That makes perfect sense, and that's what I was thinking. The sales reps are all over the place with info, and certainly seem incentivized to say anything to push their Protection plan and such.

Thank you very much for your kind explanation and reassurance, this helps. I'll use chat to do this.

From what I can tell it's a sales tactic to sow fear. In my case, the sales rep told me that what they told you. But they added that if I enrolled in Sprint Complete (the $15/month insurance) that I could swap within 120 days and still be eligible for the free plan. They seem to be under enormous pressure to sell that plan.
Heh, yes, see my message above. That is precisely what the first rep did - tell me that if I broke my phone within 120 days, I'd lose my plan along with it unless I bought the Sprint Complete plan. Thanks for sharing. I'll use chat to swap.

The free rate will last until end of bill cycle. You won't get charged full rate until start of new bill cycle after expiration date.
Example with free plan expiration of 1/31.If Bill cycle ends on 2/20(due date ~2/13) you won't get charged full rate unless you cancel after 2/20.
Sprint bills in advance, so bill for service for 1/21 to 2/20 is generated around 1/21 and due on 2/13.
As long as you pay by 2/13 and cancel by 2/20 your bill generated on 2/21 will be $0.
Your bill cycle dates may vary than my example.
That being said, most people port out because they don't trust Sprint to cancel at end of bill cycle. So make sure there is documentation of request and you have time to fight it if it is not cancelled.
Thanks, this is very helpful to know, so I don't have to panic. I'll get it documented by verifying it via chat.

Sounds like you have read the wiki. You must know that you were social security number will be eligible in 45 days. Your phone number and the phone however is eligible the minute it's transferred from Sprint to a different carrier hence the port right back in to Sprint using a different social security number

I don't currently have sprint compatible phones. I want to change phone numbers anyway. Probably going to use Google Voice numbers. I currently have service with Verizon.

I've decided that cost/value ratio I'd like to go with the Essential Phone:
I could get refurbs around $230(meh)
OR
Best Buy currently has Sprint Essential for $8.74/month bringing it to $240 New.

Read this:

https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=124834756&postcount=34594

As it says there:

"The Essential PH-1 is a great phone, especially updated with Android 9.x, but it has one serious flaw: Its reception is lacking especially in marginal areas."

And there is NOTHING that can be done to fix this issue EXCEPT be in a very strong signal area.
The most offered explanation has to do with the phone's ceramic case blocking the cellular signals.

But, as I said before, I think this is a great phone otherwise.
Get the latest Android 9.x update.

But if this PH-1 is used consistently in a marginal signal area one would better be served by a different phone, like a Moto G line. Moto phones seem to have great signal reception.

You may also want to check out the original Sprint Essential PH-1 thread here at Sickdeals:

https://slickdeals.net/f/10772655-sprint-essential-phone-5-m-with-flex-lease

or search for essential ph-1 in all forums for more data on this phone.

On a somewhat related matter:

5G cell service and 5G cellular devices and simple 5G hotspot devices should be widely available sometime next year that'll have data speeds faster than Fios.
Keep in mind that ALL current 4G devices will be incompatible with the new 5G service, so spending several hundred $$$$ this year on a 4G device, like $1,000.00 iPhones, etc., is not really a good idea.
Of course, 4G will be around for probably some more years but if in a year or so you can get, for instance, a $1,000.00 5G device why spend that much now for a lower tech item???

Also, 5G when fully implemented will eventually make hard wired internet services like Fios/Cable/etc., obsolete.
