Have thoroughly read the wiki. Just looking for confirmation that I've fully grasped it.
NB is not the suggested method to port away sprint

it is suggested to use TM.

If you're using a phone that currently has a Tello account. Then obviously that phone is not clean ESN ready to activate etc.etc again it should be very simple what you can and cannot do all spelled out in the wiki Reed Wiki
I don't have it currently with Tello, I just need to keep a junk phone # active that isn't voip and Tello is the cheapest option that I've found since I can get a pay as you go plan and just use it every 3 months to keep it active. So I was just curious if this could be a possible solution. Thanks for the help.

You can get a cheap phone and swap it on to your tello line to free up that phone but you'll have to ask tello to flip the prepaid flag back to postpaid but they may not be willing to do so. In that case you'll have to contact Sprint. More details are in the wiki.

Or maybe someone else has a suggestion.
The iphone has never had tello or sprint service so it's good to go. I'm just looking for the cheapest option to still keep a junk # active (was on a another phone that no longer works). So it looks like a cheap phone is the best route unless there is another pay as you go service as cheap as Tello, not a voip, and not on sprint so I can keep active without having credit expire after a specific time frame. Thanks again for the help.

Plenty of cheap Sprint flip phones out there. Some have been mentioned in this thread but you'll have to do a search.

If I port out the phone number for my Magic Box, do I still need to return it since I read that a new version is coming out?

My plan expires in 2 months and I just opened another plan using my wife's SSN so would like to keep the Magic Box since w/o it, we only get 1/2 bars in the house.

Last I read, Sprint wasn't giving out the newest Magic Box version yet. The one I have is good enough as I get a consistent 5 bars (vs. 1-2 bars w/o it).

I can confirm they are still shipping the older (gen 2) Magic Box. I ordered mine 1/25/2019 and received it 1/29/2019

Helped me A TON. Here in 94565 my house happens to be in the hills, on the very edge of coverage. Fairly consistent, but always extremely low signal.
Average speeds before magic box:
Download = 1.5mbps
Upload = 2.5mbps

Average speeds after magic box:
Download = 47mbps
Upload = 6mbps

Thank you guys for the extremely detailed wiki/FAQ, helped immensely. Setup was pretty painless since all of the legwork had already been done and everything was spelled out so well. Much appreciated!

From their announcement/description at: https://newsroom.sprint.com/sprin...ic-box.htm

"The new unit also includes Wi-Fi backhaul so the device can work using a Wi-Fi connection if wireless coverage is not available. Sprint Magic Box has a color screen that clearly displays key information, two USB ports for charging devices, and an Ethernet port for future support of network devices."

The one they just sent me has none of that.

No color screen, not 2 USB ports for charging devices, no Ethernet port, and no way to connect to my wireless network. .

I don't want to force roaming, I want to only roam on tmobile.
Update PRL and then turn off bands 25, 26, and 41 on your phone. Keep in mind that Sprint also roams on AT&T, so turn them off if you want pure T-Mobile data. Roaming on T-Mobile is coded as home network in the Sprint system, therefore does not count as off-network roaming. According to the SPR-TMO 4-year roaming agreement, the roaming is also done and broadcast as Clearwire MCC/MNC signal on some towers. This is Sprint/Clearwire native signal, therefore your phone may have already roamed on T-Mobile without the roaming icon on the phone. This is why it's important to update the PRL.

I like this info posted by the moderator;

"In terms of its fundamentals, Sprint is much better than it used to be. They've now hit ~75% of macro sites for 2.5 GHz. Last quarter it was on 70% of macro sites. (Page 10 of the Fiscal 2Q18 Investor Update)

Massive MIMO, Magic Box, and small cells are happening as well at an appreciable scale.

Sprint's speeds are also better. See here: https://newsroom.sprint.com/fyq31...ogress.htm

Average Downloads Speeds Increase: Sprint customers love Unlimited data and we're meeting this demand by adding more capacity and speed to our network. Today we have a national average download speed of 29 Mbps1, and speeds are up 93% over the past two years.2 In addition, the latest quarterly data from Ookla shows no one beats Sprint for fastest average download speeds in 105 cities.3

Other reports show similar improvements in a number of cities. Recent data from RootMetrics® shows Sprint has the fastest download speeds in Manhattan, Los Angeles, Denver, Seattle and Boston.4

Although more adds would be a good thing, the bloodletting that occurred during Network Vision isn't happening, and the network is improving substantially."
Sprint customers at the Big Game this weekend will have a great experience benefiting from the major investment we've made in network upgrades and our deployment of Massive MIMO.

The picture shows 367 Mbps down [sprint.com], but that was measured with an empty stadium. If anyone here going to the Big Game, could you please do several speed tests and share with us the real throughputs during the game; with all the heavy network traffic when people are taking selfies, texting, streaming adult materials, etc.?
