Guess they are finally valuing their service quality at zero dollars!! Having unfortunate experience of being a sprint customer, I wholeheartedly concur with the valuation of their service.

Hi! I have ten specific questions that only pertain to my individual circumstances. I epitomize laziness and my sense of entitlement is impervious to reason. Therefore it is the responsibility of anyone and everyone who reads this to find the answers to my questions.

I just want to update my own post from yesterday..so anyone who is looking to activate their LG G5 has the right sim to work with.

The part number that desi_babu_2010 gave is the only one that will work. SIMGLW446C.

None of the 4 sim cards that were inside the BYOP kit worked. I don't know if it has to do with the age of the phone, but it seems that this phone requires the original sim SIMGLW446C.
awesome.

did u get the correct sim?

how?

cost?

Ok, thanks, I will have my friend see if he has another option he likes, and then have him call retention w/out "bluffing".

Back to me: I NEVER called retention. So, you are saying they somehow "thought" I wouldn't stay (figured out on their own that I am a cheapskate), and put me on the retention plan?

Is the "default" for people expiring from the Free Year (recently) to get transitioned to the $60 plan?
Yes I believe they looked at your credit report, usage pattern, phone brand, residence location and other factors in deciding. I can guarantee you that their computer system does this routinely, using sophisticated algorithms, not just for this plan, but for every customer on every plan who is the point of facing a fee increase or other reason that might cause them to leave. Every carrier does this and uses it to determine what offers will be made.

Not only that, they continually score all customers on desirability and use that in determining which rep you speak to when you call and what favors to be prepared to give. All carriers do this also.

Yes, Unlimited Basic at $60 a month is the default.

Sprint store wouldn't even sell it to me, so I had to buy one at BestBuy for $10. I couldn't wait for Sprint to mail me one since my monthly billing was coming up on the old provider in a couple of days.

Thanks to all the hard work all the contributors put in the wiki, I now activated this 1yr free sprint line for my dad. This will be perfect for him. I also want to thank for the phone suggestion. I bought a used sprint LG G5 off eBay for $35. By far the biggest bang for the buck. This phone is phenomenal for what I paid. I had him ride out a windows phone for a couple of years, he'll be really happy with this new upgrade.

Only thing I have noticed so far is the phone went into ROAMING. I don't know if that is included with the plan but I disabled roaming. Don't know if it makes a difference.
Good to know!

You should leave Roaming enabled. It is actually free unlimited extended area coverage under the new TMobile-Sprint agreement in all liklihood.

Sprint uses it to give you a better signal and speed where needed. Some phones show still show it as roaming.

There are roaming limits but they only apply to roaming on other carriers and only limit roaming on those carriers.

You can monitor your *real* roaming total on your usage stats on your online account. As long as they stay at zero, the "Roaming" is actually extended coverage on TMobile.

There is never any charge under any circumstances.

Thanks, @comintel. VERY informative!
However, this (presumably) good deal they gave me (30/month including 50GB Hotspot) puts me in a quandary. I had my SO get the Free Year just last week. I can easily do the T-Mobile SIM Port Dance and port into that plan. But 30/Month w/50GB hotspot seems like a good plan to keep (albeit for $25/month more than the $5 taxes the free plan will cost). It's my understanding that the current free plan gives no hotspot. Thoughts from anyone?

If you accepted the retention offer of $25/ line for BYOD, it usually retains your original plan.

BYOD signed up before July 13, 2018 has hotspot feature. So if one has that plan, he would get BYOD with hotspot for $25 (from retention).

Yeah but my quandary is whether to get a year free on my SO's plan ($5/month) or to pay $25 more a month ($30) for a plan that gives 50GB hotspot (and will presumably go on indefinitely if I keep the line active). Is the $30 plan a good enough deal to forgo the free year since I likely won't find a deal like that for $30 next year?

Anyone coming to the end of their free year like me, Mint Mobile is a good solution. Right now 3 months for $20. You can find cash back sites with $20 back so you really just pay the taxes like you do on here. Mine was $3 total. After that runs out I can come back to this deal if it's still going.

My personal estimation right at the moment is that Sprint may be just as desperate a year from now as it is now, possibly more so. If that is right, the retention offers a year from now may be at least as good.

The merger is not at all an assured thing.

Even if the merger does go through, TMobile has just pledged to continue to offer all Tmo and Sprint plans at the same price for 3 years. This would not assuredly include the Sprint Free plan, but it does mean overall prices should stay low.

But I reserve the right to change my mind! I have not ruled out signing up for a paid plan still - maybe SWAC too.

It is not an easy call.

Has anyone figured out a way to hack roaming with the new "no hotspot" plans?

All plans now include free unlimited roaming on TMobile - this is a recent development under the new Sprint-TMobile roaming agreement so you might not be aware of it.

If you meant "no hotspot" plans, the easiest way on Android is to use PDANet+.
