If you have a target nearby you can get H2O sim for $1. Online it shows $1.99 but target near me has $1 price and I have noticed it for the last 2 months. Get few extra for future use.

How long does it take to port to h2o before porting back to sprint ? Same process like porting to T-Mobile?
historically,

h20 : used to port away from carrier and let number die. cheap 1 penny sim from amazon. no need to add funds. etc.

tm: used to port out of carrier A. keep number . port back to same carrier A to take advantage of a promotion that carrier A has for new customers or for those that port in a line from a different carrier.

[needless to say...common sense would indicate
that carrier A cannot be TM itself (or its MVNO)]

One question which I mightn't have missed in comments and wiki. Is there a clear way to circumvent the hotspot and video streaming speeds? Will using a VPN work. I'll be using this on an iPhone.

Just did the H2O deal, ported from sprint to H2O on Monday with the $1 target Sims. Friday ported back to sprint. Had to call H2O to get account #s. Pin is the last 4 of the Sim. They do ask for 3 numbers dialed from your phone. Porting did not go smoothly. Setting up account back with sprint took 20-30 min however I was notified that porting was not processed due to incorrect info. I called sprint porting Dept and they called H2O to have it released. Took another 20-30 min. Had to reset my network settings in iPhone to work on sprint again.

updated wiki to this:

~7/15/18. the 10 gb hot spot feature has been removed for new sign ups and in no way can it be added. (not a lower amount, not even for an additional fee)..therefore...as an alternative..android users can get pda net plus from app store (free to try ..$8 to buy) and use as hot spot ...works well for most people.......[i dont know what iphone users can use as alternative]

Try running through the Ting checker to see if that clears the status. Sometimes it does.
Thanks @comintel. Yes its says Great news! Your phone is compatible with Ting.
But it won't show same on Sprint.

not surprised.
but glad u got it to work

C....H20

h20 is YMMV.
they require u:
1. keep plan for 3-5 business days.
2. make 3 -5 calls and ask for those numbers.
3. be able to receive a text with the pin # &/or account #
(meaning the phone has to be on H20)

in short not as easy as TM method above

Yes if it is a prepaid phone (which it probably is) it cannot be activated on Sprint because they want prepaid device to be on Boost or an mvno.

No funding. The Target Sims have a month free of the 6gb plan.

I feel like T-Mobile must be having issues today. It took me multiple tries even to get through their website to submit the port request. Now it's just been sitting there for an hour and doing nothing, but the port was instant when I did it last week on a different line. Nothing to do but wait, I guess . . .
Maybe the "Slickdeals" effect of people trying to get on the free Sprint plan before the opportunity is gone.

I was referring to the process described here https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=122164159&postcount=30543

EDIT: Okay I see both options mentioned in the wiki...
