I'm glad I read through the last two pages, after realizing my plan is up soon.

Relieved to confirm ahead of time that Sprint does indeed charge for the next month (for the current billing period). Autopay takes payment every 22nd, and my plan ends 9/30. So I gotta plan my escape outta here by 8/22 at the very latest.

I originally bought my Boost phone from Walmart, and activated it on this plan. 1) Will I need to call in and make sure it's unlocked? I did some googling and read that Sprint should unlock it automatically after some time, but would confident hearing confirmations.

I plan to port/bring this phone to a new account on Tello. 2) After I pay my final bill, I assume I won't run into any financial eligibility check issues, right?

I have two lines on the plan. I'll port one out to see if they contact me about extending the unlimited plan any further. I don't plan to get on the Kickstart plan since Tello would still be cheaper for me.
Autopay usually takes place about 7 days before end of bill cycle. If your bill cycle ends on 8/29 you won't be switched to paid plan until after 10/29. You are right on 9/30 for start of bill cycle though so may need port out by 9/29 to be safe.

First, thank you.
I've always had roaming enabled, but still had bad service with Sprint.
Getting my phone unlocked took a week, though I'm not sure it was successful until I called back at that time. My phone is now listed as a "Motorola z² Play - Open Market".

From prepaidcompare, I was thinking about the $5, $8.25, or $9.67 Red Pocket eBay (or Amazon) VZW or ATT deal, but those deals don't actually show up on ebay or amazon. Cheapest I see is $10 (500/500/500) directly from redpocket.com. Any other recommendations? I also would use TMO if I had to. Just not Sprint. FYI seems like when I was looking a year or so ago, Mint and Ting (maybe Redpocket) were much cheaper than they are now.

Also they don't have roaming, but I never was in an area where I saw my Sprint service roaming, so I'm assuming the service on these MVNO's won't actually be worse than my Sprint coverage with roaming is.?

Will I need to order a new SIM? If so I guess I need to start that process now so I won't be without service.

My "free" Sprint service is supposed to end 7/31, but looking at my account online, it saying I'll only be charged $4.34 on 7/21/19. I assume if I do nothing, they'll auto move me to a full price plan (?), which I guess wouldn't be until ~8/21.
Should I cancel now too?

Also I'm thinking about getting this G7 Power (I have a G6 Play).
https://slickdeals.net/f/13212070-motorola-moto-g7-power-32-gb-unlocked-with-verizon-activation-for-79-99-tax
If so, will I have any problems if I cancel with VZW, and then get service with a VZW VMNO like Redpocket? The temporary service won't be with my # that I'll port in to the VMNO, but didn't know if using the same phone/SIM (or my name, etc) would trigger anything.
Yes you can cancel whenever (sorry I was getting the dates mixed up earlier). I will defer to edog11 on all date questions. You can call Retentions/ Account Services at that same number 844-382-3317 and get confirmations of any date questions.

Red Pocket is going to have some new low-cost specials coming up this week supposedly for Freedom Pop refugees and everyone.

Some Verizon MVNO's may refuse the phone if it was bought from Verizon. Others may allow it. I believe they get penalized $x per month if they take a phone sold by Verizon at retail. If the penalty is only a dollar or so (it varies by model) they may take it anyway.

You never need a new Sprint sim for the same phone going to a Sprint MVNO.

If you want voice roaming on a Sprint MVNO you have to use Ting or Twigby. Others do not have it. Mostly you do not need it anyway but obviously you could.

But you should not need a Sprint MVNO since/provided the phone is unlocked. I would say you need to test that this will be true for your phone. If this is true, you can activate it on any carrier mvno including RedPocket TMobile option or ATT option or Verizon Option as you say but check to be sure.

You had best ACTUALLY ACTIVATE IT NOW on another carrier mvno BEFORE taking it off Sprint to be sure it is unlocked and will work well. You can use a temporary phone number on the other carrier.

You would need different sims for each case. The Sprint roaming rules would be irrelevant in the case of another carrier.

Those cheaper prices are for longer-term prepayment. I see some of them at https://www.redpocket.com/plans/ebay . You better hold off on longer term prepayment until you test one month first.

Congratulations on getting the phone unlocked!

Right on.

So the plan ends 9/30, and I would be charged full priced ($60/line or whatever) for the month of October on date 9/23, which I don't want happen -- I plan to port out early/mid September, and maybe they'll reach out to extend.

I'll call for the phone unlock Monday and report back results. Thanks for the ph#, comintel.

Does sprint do pro-rate billing, I added a line with kickstart v2 plan only to find out that it does not have hotspot, today is day 4, if I cancel now, will I be billed 4 days or whole month? I still have other lines in my account, so my account is still open.

You can see if they will refund under their Satisfaction Guarantee: https://newsroom.sprint.com/sprin...-phone.htm

I would suggest, call Retentions at 844-382-3317 to discuss. Also, you never know, they just might give you a plan with Hotspot as a Retention offer, especially if you have several lines (it is not all that likely but it never hurts to ask)..

Also, I heard there is a new version of KickStart with Hotpot coming (although only a small amount for free - otherwise $10 extra for 50 GB). Again, I would suggest ask them!

Just fyi, no version of KickStart ever had Hotspot. But they are at least considering adding it now.

Looking to buy the Pixel 3a and add to my free plan with an expiration of 1/30. Can that phone be switched with my current phone without messing up my free remaining plan? TIA

Sure, as long it's not the Verizon model you can swap it in. Get a compatible sprint sim and see Note 3 in the wikipost for details.

As noted by others, this deal is over.

If you want $25 KickStart, you can get that in your case by porting out and starting over with that. You cannot convert in place to KickStart. Well, you can try this:

https://slickdeals.net/f/10235008-sprint-byod-1-year-unlimited-talk-text-data-free-w-eligible-device...

If you want it simpler, just port out, then sign up for KickStart from scratch and port into that.

Hmm what the benefit of Kickstart plan vs the one that Sprint converted me to - currently unlimited everything at 30$/month including taxes (I think the actual bill is 30.10 dollars)

Very interesting! We have not seen that one I think,

If you do not mind checking, what is the name of the plan as shown on the MySprint app on the phone or in the OnlinePortal?

Was it a special Retention offer?

It may be a clone of KickStart that they gave you because you cannot convert to the official KickStart itself.

Does it have hotspot?

Regular KickStart is also $30 less $5 autopay discount and has no hotspot yet.

No retention offer. I was just automatically converted. It kept the name the same as when it was free.

The name it states in the bill is "Unlimited - BYPhone unlimited talk text data"

by hotspot do you mean if I can make my phone a hotspot?if that's the case then yes

Thanks.

That plan used to be $60 a month but was overpriced at that. They just added Hulu to Unlimited Basic. Maybe this is a stripped down version without Hulu.

I would suggest read the bill carefully to see what the normal monthly charge will be every month going forward.

Yup already did. 30 dollars charge ... 5 discount with autopay ... Then of course taxes and fees of 5.xx ...

So I guess no benefit of porting out and come back in. Abs this one has unlimited text and data when outside the country as well. Not sure if Kickstarter has it. I was away a few times and loved having the roaming for free

and this is a single line so it's not like I'm benefiting from family plans or anything

It is possible that this is a new name for KickStart.

Can you see how much HotSpot you have (if any)? It shows under Data Usage. For example, if it says Hotspot usage: 3 MB out of 500 MB that would mean you have 500 MB Hotspot. If it is zero or a low value then this appears to be a new name for KickStart, but that is great that people are now apparently converting to it in at least some cases when coming off the Free plan.

(Kickstart does have Global Roaming but no Hotspot).
