Set my account to terminate at the end of the billing cycle. Called the magic number today and they said they'd be happy to switch us over to kickstart, but that the previous rep lied about setting us up to cancel! Even though he had me on hold for almost half an hour "finishing it up."

Now I have 3 days until end of cycle/BYOD. Is there any chance at all that's enough to try again? If not what's the cheapest and fastest way to port out and back in?

I would just port out to a non-Sprint carrier (then later port back in to kickstart). Unless you do it today, I guess best also cancel the cancel (tell them you will port out instead) just to handle the remote contingency that the port fails and you could end up losing your number.

People can always convert to kickstart by porting out to a non-Sprint carrier and then back in to kickstart.

Whats the best way to save a number? I have one number that I ported to tmobile but I dont want to lose it. Any suggestion where i can port it for free and leave it there?
You can temporarily xfer to sideline app for few days free and then for couple of bucks I think you can keep it for a month or so...just double chk in it...

It looks as if the method to cancel for a future date and then convert to kickstart without porting out is no longer working reliably. I guess Sprint got wind of it. I suspect some callers explained the workaround to Sprint so Sprint closed it off. I was afraid that might happen. It seems that reps are now diarizing the cancel request and holding off on actually entering it into the system until very close to the end of cycle, to prevent this from working. (Either that or they are not entering the cancel at all).

So I would just port out to a non-Sprint carrier (then later port back in to kickstart). Unless you do it today, I guess best also cancel the cancel (tell them you will port out instead) just to handle the remote contingency that the port fails and you could end up losing your number.

I have revised my earlier post to say that this method no longer works reliably.

People can still convert to kickstart by porting out to a non-Sprint carrier and then back in to kickstart.
I called again last night and was more firm about getting it set to cancel (expressed frustration about the first one lying and made them repeat several times that it was actually set up to terminate this time). Called just now to your magic number and they gave me Kickstart with no problem on all lines. Now just have to cross fingers that this rep didn't screw it up.

I actually thought that with my promotion ending in only a couple days they would not set it to terminate nor would they agree to Kickstart, but here we are. Thanks for all your help! I tried to rep you again, but I have to "spread it around" first. Smilie

There's still no idea when the enrollment period for Kickstart ends, right? Will we get any warning at all, or will it just be gone one day?

Also, on the tiny chance I can get those credits even though I didn't actually leave, where do I sign up? I thought about leaving just to make a better chance for those, but even a small interruption in service would be a big deal for us. Do I sign up now, or wait till my BYOD has actually switched to Kickstart?

Kickstart plan has been offered on/off for last ~1 year.
so even if not available (at any given time) , chances are that it will be back soon...

So it can still work! Thanks for posting the update!

Here is the link to register for the MasterCard promo after you are converted: https://www.sprintpromotionshub.c...NEWLINE719 . As you say I do not know if it will show up as a "new line" qualified for that promo.

I agree with Desi that it is quite unlikely that they would be able to kill off KickStart signups (other than pausing it briefly which could happen) this far ahead of the resolution of the merger (with the trial now scheduled for December).

Thanks! Since it says to register within 30 days, I guess I'll wait until the Kickstart pricing is actually in effect. For some reason I thought the promo language said $250 per line, but it's doubtful I'll get anything, so it hardly matters.

The $250 per line offer (for 2 or more lines) is part of the "Come back to Sprint" offer but does not apply if you choose KickStart (only for regular priced plans, no special offers)..

Got it. So it wouldn't have worked with Kickstart no matter what, even if I had ported out and back in.

thats the plan.... i did cancel the cancel and said keep me on the unlimited basic for another month and pay off the phone by the 18th of next month and ill own the phone. but i even asked him, if i have another compatible phone that i owned could i switch that and he acted like i couldnt do anything so long as there was a leased phone on the account. i thought about adding a new kickstart line, then porting out my main number, paying off the lease then porting my number back in..... but id hate to set that all in motion then get screwed again at the last second.
How sprint lease payoff works? I think
They will ask us return the device once the lease ended. Can someone explain in more detail about this.

Yeah it kind of sucks. You can do one of the following things at the end of your lease: 1) pay a couple hundred bucks and you now own the phone 2) agree to purchasing the phone but spread that couple hundred bucks over 6 month payment 3)turn the phone in and upgrade to a new phone, starting another 18 month lease 4) do nothing at all... Which you'll just continue paying that monthly lease amount but as a rental... 5) turn the device over to sprint at the end of the lease... Now you have no phone. You never actually own the phone until after 18 months of payments and then making a ballon payment which is essentially the full retail price of the phone less the total of the 18 months of payments.

I got screwed cuz I have 2 numbers on my account, my primary line and the second line was a friend's... who passed last year. I held on to it cuz.... Well, I wasn't ready to let go (don't judge). I realized it was on a forever iPhone plan paying $22 a month TWO full years AFTER the lease expired. So 24 payments of $22 and I STILL don't own the phone they said I'd still have to pay like $130 to own it. I closed the number and returned the phone.

You'd think I could use that as leverage with sprint (not to mention the 20 years of service) to do some sorta magic on my lease. I just hit the 12th month upgrade period but I can't close my account port out and back in until I payoff the 6 months of lease payments at $34 a month PLUS pay the purchase price at the end of the lease which I heard was like. $220. Or I could return the phone and have nothing. The "kicker" here is, you can't get a Kickstart plan if you have a lease anywhere within sprint.

After I was offered the Kickstart plan and signed all up for it, an hour later got a call saying they can give it to me because I am leasing a phone. Lost my mind. Then they send me a survey. Wrong move... sending a customer satisfaction survey to someone they just screwed. So of course I have to fill it out. I get a call the next day from a "special department."she said she wouldnt lose a 20 year customer and oh she's work her magic. Almost 45 minutes later," sorry I tried everything we can offer you anything... That killed me. So no Kickstart for me til I payoff this phone. Lol.

Waaaaow! That's very interesting. Expiration date is the same as our current 4/30/20, but would be hugely beneficial to anyone who missed it. Really deserves to be a new thread if it's true. I nominate comintel to start it since he's been THE most consistent person in helping people on 1YF. Hurray for Sprint desperation. Yahoo!
