OK. Because of your link, I replied to their email and asked again. This is their response: "Thank you for choosing Tello.

We have checked and indeed starting from September the policy has been updated and now it will count for the last order not for the activity anymore.

Do let us know if you have further questions."

So it looks like they are indeed now requiring a Pay As You Go top-up every 3 months regardless of balance or call activity.
repped, that is even more definitive and makes more sense. Too bad there isn't a grandfathered clause. There may be some other tricks up their sleeves so I'm probably going to be winding down my Tello hobby. This recent paygo fiasco leaves me befuddled and frustrated.

During a phone conversation I just had with Tello customer service literally minutes ago,
I also gave them feedback (which they said would be forwarded to the appropriate department) suggesting that they implement an automatic 90-day top up or at least have some notification system in place that lets you know that you are nearing your 90-day expiration date. The rep said they currently do not have a system like this in place. The only automatic notification you can currently set is for when your top up balance becomes low.

I was wondering about that, how would they notify a glove box phone. I haven't turned some Tello phones on for a month! I really shouldn't complain but I still have PTSD from Ringplus days.

I hear ya. I guess I was one of the few that actually had a good experience with Ring Plus. Anyway, I did suggest to Tello the notifications be by both email and text.

If they kill the accounts/credits for non usage that's one thing (not that I approve) but losing mass amounts of customers' phone numbers with no warning will be FTC hell for Tello when people start complaining.

Personally I would prefer if we did not turn this into a Tello thread discussing minutiae of Tello topup expiration policy.

I agree, my bad: I had multiple tabs open and replied to monkeybiz thinking it was in the Tello thread that I originally posted.

my friend is thinking of jumping from Verizon but probably needs a compatible phone. Not sure yet if he would be an add-on to a free BYOD or start a KS for himself.

what kind of deals are around for new/used (great condition) Sprint smart phones? (lower end prices)

on KS, I think he could flex lease the Galaxy S10 for free, but if I remember, at the 18 months you dont own the phone.

You cannot lease from Sprint on Kickstart.
https://www.sprint.com/en/shop/pl...:Supernova

Personally I would buy again a Samsung S8 (which I have) or S8 Active for probably under $200 used and not much more under various new offers too, especially coming up on Black Friday etc.

It gives you VoLTE and you can tether/hotspot easily too by adding DUN to the APN.

You can buy a Verizon, TMobile, AT&T or Sprint model S8 as long as it is unlocked because it switches its personality depending on Sim insertion.

Other here have made other phone suggestions in the past.

If I upgrade/switch my existing phone on the 1-yr free plan with a new iPhone XR (Sprint) bought from ebay, can the phone be unlocked after 50 days on this plan?

Yes, you can. I did the same earlier this year with my xs max.

Why didn't you port out at the store?
I did not have Ultra mobile store nearby and did not have all phones with me at the time in Tmobile store. Also, was better to not physically swap out the sims.

I need to port out my Sprint lines in the coming weeks. I used to be able to port to H2O and not add any money to the H2O account. Does that still work?

I'm planning to port out 4 lines to Verizon. Right now they offer $250 Mastercard (must keep service for 6 months or Verizon will do charge back) for BOYD with waived activation if done online. Also cash back website offers $75 per new line. This would be good for at least 6 months of service. The best value would be to have 5 lines, cost per line goes down.

Then waiting for Sam's club one day sale in November to upgrade phones and not deal with trade in bill credits from Verizon. Hopefully they will offer $300 as in the past couple years.
