These highly rated headphones have received 4.6 out of 5 stars based on over 2600 Amazon Reviews
I have both. You'd be hard pressed to be able to tell the difference. And if you can, then you're more than likely able to tell the difference among higher priced earphones and also appreciate the sonic differences to warrant their higher price tag.
Worthy upgrade IMHO: my ears don't sweat and I can wear many hours on end. These fits both the MDR7506 and V6 models: Beyerdynamic EDT250V Headphone Ear Pads Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0016MF7W2/
Good headphones. I let a family member "borrow" mine and never saw them again.

I own both as well and will echo what Bob2012 said. I won't say they sound exactly the same, but they are very close. I'd just get whichever is cheaper (usually the V6) and be happy saving a few dollars.
You should buy headphones with a detachable cable because most headphones will only last a year if you don't. I already burned through one of my cables from my audio technica headphones.
how do you burn through? I usually have cracking soft surfaces on the ear cup and headband , no cable issue.

I meant it as an expression. I go through several headphones per year, but it doesn't mean that they combust. My ATHM50's came with three cables and they have lasted me for three years already.
