If it wasn't for the crappy company, this could be a good deal.

B250 is the business class chipset, and doesn't allow overclocking.

The k version cpus are unlocked, meaning they can be overclocked. The k versions are also more expensive then the non k version.

So k version cpus should be paired with z series motherboards. For kaby lake (7700k), a z270 motherboard is what you want. B250 would be good with 7700 non-k.

The price difference is not very much, usually $20-40 between k and non-k, and a B250 would work... it just seems like a waste.

If you dont plan to overclock, and can deal with the drives, actually a pretty good deal. IMO

But i would wait extra couple weeks for threadripper and reevaluate options.

For a truly fair comparison you'd need to find a pre-built PC with similar specs and warranty.

At least add a copy of Windows to your parts list and a keyboard with 7 colorshug

The motherboard sucks and the SSD is tiny, but this is still a good PC for the cost. You won't come close to building something comparable yourself without using crappy parts. The double tempered glass case is quite expensive and so is the CPU cooler.

The warranty would actually be better building it yourself. Many PC components come with multiyear warranties, but this PC only has a 1 year warranty.

I ended up pulling the trigger. Even being cheap/conservative with some parts, it came to $1637 after rebates. Maybe -$80 for windows license.
