The k version cpus are unlocked, meaning they can be overclocked. The k versions are also more expensive then the non k version.
So k version cpus should be paired with z series motherboards. For kaby lake (7700k), a z270 motherboard is what you want. B250 would be good with 7700 non-k.
The price difference is not very much, usually $20-40 between k and non-k, and a B250 would work... it just seems like a waste.
If you dont plan to overclock, and can deal with the drives, actually a pretty good deal. IMO
But i would wait extra couple weeks for threadripper and reevaluate options.

Needs to be $200 cheaper or include a 500GB NVMe SSD for it to be worth it at this price.

Needs windows also, ended up at $300 less before rebates.
Aside from that am I missing something that makes this a better deal than it appears?

At least add a copy of Windows to your parts list and a keyboard with 7 colors

For a truly fair comparison you'd need to find a pre-built PC with similar specs and warranty.

Any reason not to?
