try to power $800 headphones with a cellphone. it's not about loud, it's about clarity, range, immersion.
Unless you like the sound signature of this DAC, and need the portability, there are lots of good desktop options. Notice the front input next to the headphone jack, and volume control. Many hate the layout, including me. The good thing about this DAC is that some people put it on par with Chord Mojo, but it's so subjective, and hard to quantify IMO.
As mentioned, the Schiit stack goes louder (600 ohm), and the sound is arguably as good. Modi 2 (uber) is one of the best bang for the buck DAC units at $150. The magni 2 (uber) is a solid amp at $100 - $150 depending on what you need. $250 - $300+ tax, and shipping.
Or, you can grab the Modi 2, and the Vali 2 (tube) headphone amp. This is a popular combo for those monoprice 1060 headphones. $320+ tax, and shipping. This is a warmer combo using tubes so some will definitely like this type of DAC more that other DACs.
Either combo's can end up being all you ever need. They can both power 600 ohm headphones, and seem to be well made. I like that these Schiit's have a line out, and can be used a preamp for amp/speakers. The minimal front layout, and knob is great. What I don't like is that it's too small sometimes lol. Easy to move around. I almost mounted them to my desk, but decided to run different preamp for my pc.
For those starting out, the O2 amp/ODAC combo is another great option because there's not much coloration (it doesn't change the sound much), and it may be all you ever need. It's a much cheaper option, and from there you can decide if you need something else. Buy it used if you really want to save, and get into this hobby. Then try to test more expensive offerings before investing. Some people cannot tell the difference between a decent starter DAC, and higher end DACs.
I don't see any reason to invest thousands into DAC/amp for entry level headphones. Better to invest in higher end headphones first IMO. It's the same with speakers.

Bought this for $427.49 a month or two ago. Worth every penny. I am a little salty this came down in price even more. I think I could have waited a few months. Way better than the xDuoo XD-05 I also have.
Paid full price for this back in January and it's worth every cent. Mac has problems initially connecting to it sometimes, but pc works well. The dac is amazing, and I can drive everything I have with ease. Great deal op
I always wanted a pair of high end headphones. (Sennheiser hd650 or the hd600) Would this be a good DAC/AMP? Would this just be a plug and play kind of thing? *I did some research and I am still confused on to what I need to get the full sound from the headphones. Thanks in advance!
If you have to ask, you don't need this right now just kidding. I bought one and I hardly know lol. Something to do with making demanding headphones sound great
Probably should've asked before I purchased, but how do I connect this? My primary use will be at my PC. The PC can connect to this? online streaming, flac files will be my main source.

It will be sufficient to drive HD650, but not to it's full potential. It should be plenty good. HD650 is one of the best headphones for the money and scales very well with gear. If one day you buy a $5000 headphone DAC/AMP, it's going to sound different. The iDSD is plenty good for most of the audio enthusiasts.
Another headphone options is the Monoprice 1060. It's really, really good.
