The previous FP deal is back. Walmart is selling 15 lb twin packs of Kingsford Blue Bag Charcoal for $7.88. This is an in-store only deal.

No longer mentioned on their web site. But here's a linky [brickseek.com] to Brickseek. Plenty of stock in almost all my local stores.

Nets out to ~$0.262/lb.

Costco is going to have $5 off KIngsford Professional Competition Briquets on 6/29? Anyone knows what the regular price is and does the competition make a big difference?

Kingsford Pro has no filler, so it will make less ash and burn hotter. More like lump.

Contains wood char, cornstarch (binder) and borax (release agent).

Ok thanks! Does that mean it uses less briquets to heat up since it's hotter? I'll probably just get the deal you posted since I saw them at my Walmart Neighborhood Market that is 3 minutes away.

Kind of.

KBB has 20% limestone and an accelerant.

So there's 20% more fuel in a briquette of Pro. And it will take a little bit more energy to get it burning.

It burns hotter but not longer in real world tests

I much prefer pro because of the less ash, but it's expensive

I have been using Kingsford for the past 7 years, but decided after reading some reviews of Royal Oak and from what I have used, it burns hotter and longer.

Lowes 2-pack 18.6LB is (slightly) a better deal.
Walmart and Lowes are in the same shopping center for me so that doesnt really mean much to me.

Interesting -- i've had the exact opposite experience the last two times i bought royal oak. I'm convinced something's changed with the product as I seem to be getting less heat and less longevity out of Royal Oak.

I know Kingsford redid their formula in 15. Do you have pre 15 bags? I normally buy whatever is cheap. A friend of mine claimed he needed multiple chimneys to complete a cook out I still have some pre 15 bags. They reformulated in 7, 10 and 15 I believe the old school ones did not have the ridges.

These people did a test.
