Diablo 3 is a very good game. Especially with the expansion. I do agree that Diablo 2 HD would be a very welcome addition though.
Pfft.

I was on the USEast HC ladder in D2 for awhile, before 1.10 (or whatever major patch it was that completely messed up the ladders). Well, before I died on that character due to a disconnect. I used to dual box to be able to run a backup character to grab gear for my HC characters. I think I had three copies of the game at one point to be able to load extra mule characters easily. It's been awhile.

So when I say this, it's from the perspective of someone who wasted far more hours on DII than she should admit: Diablo III is fine. In fact, between seasons and rifts and greater rifts and class dungeons and now challenge modes, it's FAR more fun than Diablo II ever actually was.

It's true that when Diablo III FIRST released it was a disappointment from the perspective of carrying forward the legacy from Diablo II, but other than the core gameplay itself (which wasn't the issue) it's a completely different game now than it was at release. The gearing situation is completely different (and absolutely better both for someone who is only playing casual and ALSO for someone who is throwing gobs of hours at the game in a given season), the auction house mess is gone, things bind to accounts in sensible ways, personal loot is so much better than how contentious things could get in DII, etc.

I'll take what Diablo III has become any day over Baal run after Baal run after Baal run, or grinding foothills to level while wondering if the next person to pop into the game was going to be a hydra exploit mage (or worse, wondering if someone who's boss running with you is going to . Etc. After about level 60, Diablo II really didn't have much actually going for it. 70s and 80s were just… yeah. At the time it seemed fun, partially due to playing with friends/etc, and having your character and gear on the line in HC helped create some tension, but… it was nothing but a completely repetitious grind in reality, with nothing really to push against in terms of skill and limits, along with a lot of very locked-in number crunching to match attack speed amounts to breakpoints for frames per attack for specific attacks. The new gear system in III is far more interesting in creating viable and bizarrely functional builds.
I guess this deal is for gamers like me that played Diablo a few times back in the 90s and only ever saw other people rave or play it since. Every gamer I know already owns this game...every OTHER gamer I know lol.

D3 and the expansion are very good games, so were D1 and D2 and their expansions. D3 will never live up to people unrealistic expections that were built up after so many years. I agree that D3 had problems when it first launch with the AH and network connection problems, but the issues have been fixed long ago.

I know they fluctuate, but I would have thought if they were matching a gamestop sale, it wouldn't just be for a few hours in the middle of the night.

There's potentially a lot of bang for the buck here. It's different than it's decades old predecessors, but that's not a bad thing. I'm tempted to try the new necro pack ($15), but might not. The game, just like d2, gets repetitive. But before that happens, there's a fair amount of content (for $20), and an infinite amount of difficulty since greater rifts become harder each level.

If you like this sort of thing, I'd say go for it. It's flashy, and is fun your 1st few times through. You could easily waste a ton of time this summer playing d3.

I enjoyed 3 more than the first two. Great price on this for anyone that doesn't already have it.
