Here's some extra info you may want to know if you're debating on this or other lenses. This 10-18mm lens is part of a lens kit Canon offers.
https://shop.usa.canon.com/shop/e...o-lens-kit

The other lens in that kit is the highly popular nifty 50 that you see in other threads here getting great reviews. I've only had that 50mm for a week but it has certainly given me some great shots at sunset. I tested at the same time with my 18-55 II and have been pleased that I purchased the 50mm. The non STM lens I had before scared the dogs (just by AF noise, noflash) but the 50mm makes just enough noise that they want to investigate it and in turn allowed some great up close shots since the 1.8 allows for nonflash. Had a blast shooting with it as the sun was going down and look forward to learning more about it.

I didn't realize that 50mm lens was packaged with another that also gets great reviews on the net, this 10-18mm. You could save by buying both refurbished but that kit is only a slight amount more for 2 brand new lenses.

This 10-18mm lens is also part of Canon's solar sale. Here's some good info on the solar eclipse locations, how to prepare, tripod, etc, and a link to the bundles including this and a great telephoto (new 70-300mm.)
http://learn.usa.canon.com/resour...ipse.shtml

Both lens in the solar bundle can use the 67mm filter that is included. If you're fortunate enough to have 2 cameras then you could technically use both on August 21st, with a 2nd filter and 10-18mm set to timelapse, and still get value afterwards as both lens should fill out your bag rather nicely if you only have the stock lens. It's never too early to grab the UV filter as they may start having stocking issues as that date approaches. The EF 70-300mm IS II USM looks to be a great fast nano USM lens. You could save a few hundred by getting the previous non-USM so do keep that in mind.

and yes, last but not least... today (the 1st) is the last day to take advantage of the AMEX rebate Canon is offering. Purchase 2 new lens and get some money back. You can almost get this 10-18mm lens new for just a few bucks more if you pair it with another one on the list. This article explains it pretty well.

I've found this site to be of great use when trying to determine what I want and what's available from Canon. I know this was long but hopefully you found it helpful. Happy shooting!

How this lens compares to the EF-S 10-22mm despite the latter being over 2.3X the cost. According to this article, the 10-18mm is actually better than the 10-22mm.
https://www.camerastuffreview.com/canon-lens-review/canon-10-18-vs-10-22

Any other direct personal experience with either is appreciated.
