There may be a consensus among experienced golfers that these clubs are not Callaway's at all, but a licensing deal between the manufacturer, Callaway, and Amazon. Check the reviews and other data/info sources. Then check competing brands that will probably be better built, and a better value.

Well, if you have the 'instant gratification now' mentality, then you may want to check on the 'Callaway' $125 deal that's actually Strata too, not Callaway built.

For a little more money you could build your own set with used clubs from good manufacturers. It would be better than buying these.

I'm confused. Why is this 12-piece set, at $125, a +60 (at the moment) front page hit, while OP's 18-piece set is not getting much love?

I'm a beginner looking for a good, starter set. Both of these sets are rated 4.5 stars on Amazon, although I understand that those ratings likely came from beginners. Why not spend another $100 on this set? Is this not as good of a deal ($140 off typical price) as compared to the other set (maybe $100 off or less)?

At $225, this is an excellent set of clubs and offers the improving beginner more room to "grow into it" as you refine your game. If you don't feel like spending a ton or buying used, this particular set offers some of the best value out there and should easily carry a beginner or intermediate golfer for quite some time.

As a beginner, you'd need to play a LOT and improve a LOT before you'll need to worry about shooting the lock off the wallet to buy what others consider a "real" set of clubs. Just look around the next time you're on the course -- the world is littered with golfers who have more money than brains.

Personally, given my current skill level, the amount I play, my rate of improvement and the price difference, I'd take these clubs in general (and the larger set in particular) all day long. So I did.

Lower than I paid for a clone set a few years back. I'm sure a real golfer could see a difference between these and a 1k set of irons, but honestly I'm sure this set would suffice for 99% of weekends golfers.

I went with the 16 piece at 175. For that $50 you get sand wedge and 5 hybrid (plus 2 more covers). This set is $50 more to add a 5 wood and cover. I think 175 is good starter as it has sw, where 125 does not...

more clubs in the higher priced set. Extra fairway wood, extra hybrid, extra wedge, and more covers. From a quick look those are the differences I saw.

Yeah, the 18pc just includes a 5w and cover for $50 more.

I have a 5w in my set ... never used it ... ever

18pc does have different drivers and irons than the 16pc set ... but average duffer probably can't tell the difference even if they were better in the 18pc set
