I know Coffee Lake is around the corner, but for those of us with 1151 motherboards, seems like a good price for I7 processor if you're not into OC. Performance is pretty much neck to neck with I7 7700.
So tempting. Would upgrade if my $60 frys g4620 wasn't doing so well at pushing the gtx1060 at 1080p. Runs a bit high at 50c prime95 100% load though but not bad for a pseudo quad. Bah so tempting! But to upgrade just to upgrade? Nah. Only if I see these 6700 or 7700 drop to 190ish I think.
4 cores still best at gaming, not bad for the price. just bought 7700k for $278 5 months ago. i dont think it ll go any lower and its becoming rare and rare.
I was looking at the i7 7700 at microcenter. I just upgraded my gpu and its creating a trickle down where I'm going to need to upgrade everything (I'm running a 7.5 year old i7, so I'm due probably).
It'll require a new mobo and memory too. But you guys think I should stay away? Is there a rabbit hole to consult on this?

If your upgrading everything I would wait and buy a 6 core or higher. Intel 6 core should be out Oct 5th ish and Ryzen price may drop. 6700k/7700k will likely drop also if you still want to go that route depending on your needs

Wait to see where coffee lake is at. To be honest if there is nothing wrong with your current build hang onto it until ddr4 comes down in price. By then you should have much choices to choose from. I was lucky and scored a 7700k and maximus formula for $400 on craigslist and DDR4 added an additional $150..
No one. They're trying to clear these but at little discount.
These can be overclocked more than the 7700 from what I hear. 4 cores/ 8 threads is still considered a good combination for normal users and gaming.
My bad, thought this was a K variant.

Cpu fits in new z370(still 1151 socket) but fails the igp verification at boot
Maybe I'll just go the Ryzen route.

I would wait for BF as ryzen prices may drop

Only the k can be overclocked I believe...
