This is over $100 discount on the top end 16 core threadripper. The 12 core model is also more mildly discounted as well. Newegg is supposed to have the same deal, but it is showing for me at the usual $999.99 price.

Even super basic scripts can be paralleled easily. If you do anything even remotely software related you can use 16 cores at least sometimes.

...Now whether or not you need that much on demand is a different question. I'd say an 8-core ryzen chip is probably enough for 99% of people.
