Here's another new line required discount on an iPhone 8, this time allowing for the first phone to be an iPhone X. Online only shows 64Gb iPhone X, hopefully in-store will have 256Gb version. Same as what they have had before, first line can be an upgrade, but 2nd line must be a new line. Looks like they've also extended the iPhone 8/8 Plus versions of this deal to 11/16/17.
I'm thinking of switching one of my lines to a prepaid service now and hoping this will be available again in a month so I can port back in with that line as new. Thoughts?

Regarding closing existing lines, paying them off early, or closing one of the lines used to get the iPhones in this deal:
If you have two lines and want to keep only two lines, you can upgrade one, open one new line and immediately close the second existing line that you didn't upgrade. You could close that other existing line before even opening the new line, just make sure your Costco has the phones you want in stock and waiting for you before you close it. The two lines on which the iPhones were put in cannot be changed until you start getting the credits (they say 3 months). Additionally, they cannot be closed or paid off if things are the same as they were with a similar deal 2 years ago. This applies to any pair of lines you upgrade (4 phones, 6 phones, etc.)
Regarding keeping the phone number from an existing line that isn't getting one of the phones in this deal and you will be closing:
This would mean you would lose that phone number. There are ways around that discussed throughout this thread, but all involve taking the number out of AT&T prior to closing that account.
