This is a perfect candidate for a powerful Mini PC or HTPC build. The Processor is powerful enough for handling all demanding tasks including photo and video editing, encoding and Iris Pro 6200 with 128GB EDRAM is equivalent to GT 940M, provides pretty solid GPU acceleration for Editing software and some low setting gaming. The CPU performance is actually better than i7-7700HQ.

  • Intel Iris Pro 6200 Graphics with 128MB EDRAM cache

Through Display Port, it can. It is just like a Windows PC, not a TV Box. So, anything permitted in a Windows 10 device, is supported here. For example, Netflix started streaming 4K HDR content on Windows 10 PC via Edge browser; so, if you connect this to a 4K HDR enabled monitor or TV, you will get that. And you can get a Mini Display Port to HDMI 2.0a adapter to connect it to HDMI 2.0 port of your display, if that does not have Display Port input,

Does this adapter cause any HDMI copy protection issues? Meaning, does it pass through all the data necessary to not get a black screen on protected broadcasts?

Why is this so much cheaper than other i5 barebone minis?
Also how does the CPU compare to a similar desktop version ?

if you buy a HDMI 2.0a adapter then you will get whatever requires. DisplayPort can transfer all the data, including the Copy protection and HDCP protocols without any issues. HDMI 2.0a is required for 4K with HDR. So, if you use that adapter, it will work perfectly fine.

You need something like this:

Don't spend wrong information without understanding a thing. Just get a DP 1.2 to HDMI 2.0a adapter and it will support everything, a HDMI 2.0 supports.

$180 Apple 4K TV unit better at video then this thing.
And can that do Video encoding, run Windows or any kind of OS or be used as a Desktop? This is a barebone Desktop kit, designed for running fill fledged Windows OS with the power of a quad core i7. So, don't compare apples to orange.

If you need a TV Box then by one. And regarding your comment about Apple TV 4K, Nvidia Shield can do for years at far lower price.

The question was about 4K HDR video. Apple TV with Infuse blows this thing out of water. Watching video through a browser is ghetto.
This is a Desktop PC deal and nobody is going to buy it for only playing HDR video and I am not sure why you did not understand that in the first place? Do one thing, go to every PC deal thread, including Desktop, laptop, Mini PC and post that Apple TV is better than all of them in Video...because as per you that is true for every Windows desktop.

If you use Ram module like below link, you can go up to 32GB
