I bought this from Kohl's earlier in the year stacking coupons and got it for like $55. Unit died the third time I used it, but CSR was excellent and I had a new one within a week. It's been solid for months. Keeps the temp well according to my external thermometer. Bought one of the specialized lids for the rubbermaid container and feel like it was worth it.

I have heard recently that people are saying that the plastic bags used for sous vide cooking are not so healthy - any validity to this?

Where did you find a lid like that? I have been using silver foil and the water still evaporates when i leave it on over night.

Food grade bags, sans "plasticizers," are recommended.

Ha. I'm apparently not the only one who immediately had the same thought...

"This is not simply a Rubbermaid lid with a hole cut in it, our lid is molded to fit the cooker with a reinforced lip which creates a superior seal. "
