Now I always tend to eat well most of the time, but while we exercised on the Wii Fit, I ate like CRAP! I justified eating lots of chocolate because "I did Wii Fit last night" and after only a few weeks I gained ten pounds.
In general, diet is the biggest factor on what you will weigh. I've read that diet is 3/4 responsible for your weight, and activity level is responsible for 1/4. This makes sense because weight can only come from the food you eat, and it takes a lot of exercise to burn calories. Personally, I find myself more hungry than normal when I exercise, so it wouldn't help me loose weight.

Hi everyone wave. Quick question has anyone been successful with any detox diet?
It's a scam. Any low effort and low motivation method is generally bunk, unfortunately. There is evidence that the Atkins diet is effective for loosing weight, but it isn't healthy.

My question is not intended to make light of others desire to loose weight, but I find it difficult to gain weight in a healthy way. I work 13+ hr shifts and find myself too exhausted to spend any time grocery shopping or cooking. My routine is to throw a Hungry Man dinner in the oven every night. Any suggestions for super easy and healthy meals for someone that doesn't know how to cook? Also, I'm not likely to buy things that will not keep for at least 2 weeks. My goal is to slowly gain 15 lbs.

Depends on many things. I'm 6'2" 185 lbs and need about 3100 calories per day. I sit in front of a computer 13hrs per day at work, but I also lift weights in the morning and run on the weekend.

Here is a calorie calculator, but I don't know how accurate these things are:

There are no such things as special detox diets. Any diet that lets you respirate, perspirate, urinate, and defecate and doesn't load you up with poisons (as happened recently with those polo horses that were overdosed with selenium) or shut down your kidneys or liver is a detox diet.

I should probably join this thread. I just had a baby last week and weighed in at 169 lbs. Time to start working on the baby weight. Whats the best way to start out? I'm already trying to get myself out of "you can eat whatever you want prego mode"

This daily calorie needs calculator [ahealthyme.com] said anywhere from 1,280-6,830, depending on whether you're 4' 8" and sedentary or 7' 5" and extremely active. I wish I could be less specific. Big Grin

Don't run a daily deficit of more than 500 Kcals in the long term to lose weight.

Apparently, figgeting is good for losing 5 lbs a year, and carrying a few extra pounds of muscle will increase your base metabolism, as will exercise.

cravings are tough. For something like that I'd recommend something like weight watchers or curves. Chances are there's women in the same boat you are, and that extra support in meetings/group exercise etc might be good to jumpstart a healthier lifestyle without going nuts.

Great to see all the new people around here Wave welcome!

i wouldnt trust the calorie counter. i mean look at michael phelps, he consumes over 13,000 calories a day. its not a good indicator IMO.

as a starting point for men, avg height (5'7"-5'11") need 2500 calories per day. Most women need significantly less than that (i'm 5'2", i'm eating around 1200-1300 calories a day to lose weight.) if you plan on lifting out of those 2500 calories, expect 80% to be lean protein for muscle building and recovery. For every inch or so over 6'0" you'd need another 300 or so calories for daily intake. If you plan on losing weight before building muscle, then cut out 500 calories.

I'm thinking of joining the Weight Watchers online service. I have their cookbooks and like the recipes, but I don't know how well I'll stick with count points and inputting my foods & activities. I did WW a few years ago and lost 10 pounds in a month. But fell off the bandwagon when DH got hurt at work.

Thoughts?

I'm seriously considering doing nutrisystem. I know people say it's expensive, but the last few months have proven to me I have no damn will power at all, I need something that will be an easy decision. I live alone, don't have any friends here, I just flat out don't do enough, and at the same time I'm not big on cooking my own food, not a fan of taking the time to prepare stuff. i figure even if it's expensive, it'll be better than eating out as much as I do, and some sort of effort is worth the $$$.

anybody have anything to add, comments, things I should be aware of up front with nutrisystem?

my biggest challenge is how much I travel, this summer is going to be a lot of travel, I can see that already, but again, something would be better than nothing.

I highly, highly recommend nutrisystem. I've never used it personally, but bought it as a gift for my mom who was having a lot of trouble losing weight- mostly due to her lack of willpower. She gets enough exercise because her job is manual labor and she's the "handyman" for her house, so that wasn't the issue. I bought her a month of it and she absolutely loved it. I believe she lost about 30 pounds. That was last year, and while she has recently gained some of it back, she looks fabulous. What's also important is the program really changed her mindset with eating... she's much better with portion control and won't eat when she's not hungry (a problem she had before nutrisystem).

You're right, it's expensive, but I do not regret spending that much on this after seeing the results. It sounds like it would be a great fit for you since the meals are easy and you can take them with you when you're traveling. I did like that we were able to pick out the individual meals that she would like and she said they tasted great too.

If you want, people sell some of the meals on ebay- you can buy a few to see if you'd like them just to try. HTH, good luck!! bounce

I just started taking Nitro-tech over the past week and the difference in the weightroom is phenomenal....I can really tell the difference while lifting. I hope to see the difference with endurance in cardio as well but that is TBD.

You still have to buy fruits, veggies, and dairy items and the food is shipped to you monthly. You can choose the items you want which is great, then you don't get stuck with food you don't like. There's A LOT of food. It took up most of my pantry! I wasn't expecting that much.

My 2 cents: DH & I tried Nutrisystem and we found the food to be pretty bad. Some stuff was good, but some was just horrible. I'd lift an edge of an item before sticking it in the microwave and gag at the smell. It would smell better once it was heated, but the before hand smell turned me off of eating it most of the time.

We weren't eating the food because it wasn't tasting good, so I sold the food to a co-worker who was thinking of signing up. I didn't want to get depended on eating out of my microwave for the rest of my life, so we quit after 2 months. I started WW after that, which taught me techniques on how to eat healthy on my own. I didn't stick with WW but I still use what I learn when making decisions on what to eat.

What I found best to help my lack-luster will power was the go through my kitchen & chuck all of the bad foods. I got rid of junk food, high sodium & fat foods (mac & cheese, top ramen, etc.) and bought a lot of fresh & figure friendly foods.

I still have problems when we go out to eat. I get fries instead of a salad or veggies, but I'm working on it Blush

I stepped on the scale today after running away from it for the past month. 199 again Frown I was expecting 200, so it's not that bad. I need to find motivation to work out though. I signed up for a Zumba class that starts in June (I heart Zumba) and am looking into my 24 hour Fitness membership, if it's still active. I'd love to find a kickboxing class.
