I'm a bit confused about the harddrive. I see it's less memory, but I've read that the SSD is much faster and quieter. Do you put additional sticks in the harddrive? Or do people simply put less items on their computer so it's under the 256GB number?

No idea what you are talking about. Don't confuse memory with hard drive. SSD is also a kind of hard drive.

Use the SSD drive for os/boot and installing programs for quick launch. Get a regular HDD if you need larger file storage.

The link given in the first page comes with a 1TB 7200 RPM HDD whereas this model comes with a 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD which is say, 20 times faster than that 1TB HDD. This is not a SATA SSD, this is a high performance PCIe NVMe SSD and that extra $16 is actually way less than if you are planning to add by yourself.

GPU was a bit low for my taste, need something a bit higher. Also from the reviews it gets overheated from gaming.

Onboard is plenty for anyone not gaming or doing heavy video-editing (ie, 90%+ of the people who actually buy computers). I'd rather see this than have them slap a POS "discrete" video card and charge an extra $50 or $75 for it.
