I actually just bought this the other day on Amazon.com to replace my old aging 10+ year old crappy soundbar.
I honestly did a lot of research, and there are really only 3 or 4 soundbars in this price range that appealed to me and had the features I wanted, which were:
- HDMI (for ARC and CEC control)
- 4k + HDR passthrough of the HDMI video signal (have an HDR TV, this is important to me)
- Optical input (obviously, pretty standard nowadays)
- Wall mount
- Lots of power (my last soundbar was only 100w)
The only ones I found were:
- Yamaha YAS-207bl - highly rated, but couldn't find it for around $200, even used ($230 was pretty standard used price on Amazon). Also only has one HDMI input, but it does support HDMI 2.0a (4k + HDR passthru), no Chromecast audio (important to me)
- Klipsch RSB-6 - Love the design of the klipsch, only has a single HDMI input, and sources say it is only HDMI 2.0 and may not do HDR passthrough (couldn't find verification, official documentation says it is HDMI 2.0 only), no Chromecast audio (important to me)
- Samsung HW-M450 / HW-K450 - both of these have HDMI, however reviews have stated they don't do 4K and/or HDR passthrough, which was an immediate deal breaker for me.
The Sony is by far the biggest steal in this price range. I've found them used for as low as $120 (albeit without a remote or without wall-mount brackets), and it has 3x HDMI 2.0a inputs, Full 4k + HDR passthrough, Google Cast and Bluetooth support etc. I particularly like the 3x HDMI inputs, because if an HDMI port goes bad on my TV, I can use the soundbars' inputs instead, which is convenient and flexible.
The only downside is the reviews aren't that great, but Amazon.com has a 2 year SquareTrade warranty on this for like $2, so I bought that too, it was a no brainer. (At least they HAD it listed yesterday for $2 when I bought it, the price might be different now)
Great price for this model, almost bought it yesterday for much more. My livingroom CT550W theater system/subwoofer is finally going out and was looking for something to replace it with. I have this model in my basement and it more than fulfills my needs (paid like $350 for it a while back). Thanks OP!
How is this system if my TV isn't wall mounted? It looks like the speakers point up. I like the Yamaha because the speakers are forward facing for either configuration (wall or table).
Also, how does HDMI ARC work? I have 4 devices connected to my TV via HDMI. Would I need to run all devices through the Sony Soundbar in order for them to have audio on the soundbar or can I run them all to my TV except one and do the pass through with the 4th device through the soundbar and be able to have audio for all 4 HDMI inputs played through the soundbar?
