Thanks OP.
I have two chandeliers that I have been wanting to upgrade to LED, but could not find dimmable ones at this price.

Question: with that big base, will it still cast light downward? Like, if I'm using them in the chandelier over the dining table, would I really get much light?

I have these same type in my office building foyer and they are very bright.

I don't don't doubt that, but if I'm using them in a chandelier they're pointing up. and I'm wondering if the bulbs would cast much light downward with the base in the way.

I have these and they diffuse the light pretty well — at least as well as the incandescents I had before. The central diffuser helps a lot to spread the light, but can cast mini-shadows depending on your room layout and/or shade. Not quite the omnipresent light that a tungsten bulb makes, but worth the tradeoff IMO.

Does it work on old regular dimmer? Can that also be used on regular lighting without dimmer?

I think we're going to see some big discounts on LED bulbs going forward, now that even cfl bulbs are getting phased out and LEDs are becoming standard. Our Lowe's has cut prices on LED bulbs of all different brands accross bulbs section.. it's about time, they've been overpriced for too long
