Seriously, mine has held up to having a ton of gamers over at the same time. It's not super up-to-date but the router performed basically flawlessly in my ~1800sqft apartment.

Lots of factors to consider. If the current router is matching the speed of the Ethernet port connection, then typically having a faster router isn't going to make the Wi-Fi faster. Maybe more reliable connection.
The only way it might improve your speed is if you have an old modem that doesn't support multi band speeds. With modern hardware the speeds are completely controlled by your isp and how they configure your line.
If you're renting outdated hardware, your isp should be happy to swap it for a newer model free of charge as yours will be considered end of life and they would rather support current models.

You'd do well to check your packet loss in the modem settings if you aren't getting the advertised speed wired.
192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 or if you have separate modem and router check 192.168.100.1.
