not sure about this:

$200 Slickdeals Rebate on purchases over $999.99

This laptop is priced AT $999.99. Good reason for SD to deny your rebate :-)
I like the XPS 13 a lot more. I have a Kaby-Lake non-touch model. Compared to the touchbar MacBook Pro, the XPS13 is smaller form factor, lighter, and I'm not a big fan of butterfly switches on the MBP.

But, the MBP def feels more premium and I still think Apple has one of the best trackpads ever. The XPS trackpad supports a ton of gestures like the MBP will, but I find the MBP's trackpad a lot smoother.

Performance wise, XPS will beat MBP based on your config. If I had choose, XPS is significantly more worth it and it won't even be considered a "compromise" or "step-down" in my books.

Only time I would go with Apple now is if money is completely not a concern and I want to stay within the Apple ecosystem. Everything works seamlessly if you have an iPhone, iPad, MacBook, Apple Watch, etc. But, it's a ridiculously expensive and overpriced ecosystem to stay in (I've been slowly migrating out over the past 3 years). Don't get me wrong, I love the ecosystem but it's not worth the price tag for me anymore.

** also check your most frequently used applications to see if it's available on OS X/Windows before making the decision.
That's not what this laptop is for...and do let us know where a sub 3 pound laptop with 10+ hour battery life in an 11.6" laptop form factor exists...and for under $1000 with that dedicated GPU you care so much about. You want a gaming laptop with specs out the wazoo? Don't look at the Dell XPS line.

DANG! I just paid $700 for a refurbished one from the outlet. It only had the i5 (8th gen) and 128gb SSD... it did have touch though and I did get $65 cashback bringing it to about $650 but for $150 more doubling the ssd and going to an i7 would probably be worth it. I assume cash back sites don't work with the SD rebates, right?

Thank you for clarification.

One more question.
My new SW premier plus CC should be delivered by end of day tomorrow, can I place my order now use my discover card, then call Dell tomorrow to change the payment type to the SW card?
Will that mess up the SD rebate?

Don't want this to be out of stock by tomorrow.

How long do these last? I currently have a 2011 macbook pro that has served me well and it's the longest lasting laptop I've ever had, but it's showing it's age in speed and I'm ready for an upgrade. I've been really happy with the mac's ability to survive in a bookbag and on the go. Are the dell's similiar quality?

Still using dell xps m1330 I bought in 2008. Abused it through my undergrad and grad school. Hell its still going strong, but might replace it soon. Couple of my buddies who bought their xps in 2009-10 still using them. That should speak the quality of the xps line.

The link shows $979.99, does that mean it's $150 rebate instead of $200?

Did you modified the original configuration by any chance?
