Online prescription test for eye glasses or contacts $10

Opternative is offering an online eye exam for prescription eye glasses or contacts for only $10 using Coupon Code: DigitalEyes. Expires June 19th.

The entire eye test is online, which I've personally done and was initially hesitant but turned out working well. You calibrate your computer with a credit card, then answer ~15 minutes worth of questions. They verify it after ~24 hrs with an optometrist then mail you the prescription.

I've personally used it before, I was initially hesitant but it turned out working well. They reassured me with a money-back guarantee on the prescription, though YMMV as their online return policy is more stringent

Actually interested in trying this because I have a baseline for what my contacts used to be and have an up to date eyeglass prescription. I wanted to get contacts again for sports but have been too cheap to fork over the cash for the exam.

I assume by your billing / shipping address?

I just paid the $10 and took the test, was pretty straight forward. Had to upload my previous contact rx (from 2010 lol) so we'll see how it goes.

THANK YOU!!! I haven't been able to get new glasses or contacts because I'm on SSDI and my income is tiny and the insurance in our state doesn't cover it.

Prepare for worst with these online exams!!! Eyes are more precious than saving few $. Get your eyes exam from your local doctor even though it may cost you a little extra but you will be fitted properly and will have free follow-up with the exam to make sure they fit and so on....

Just my 2 cents!

If this had any scientific validity, every optical insurance corporation would be requiring you to do covered services online.

Does anyone know what technology is used for this? How do they simulate putting actual different power lens (like 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5 etc) and different cylinderical powers (astigmatism) in front of your eye - that an optometrist does. I believe this test cannot give cyclinderical powers. I am still curious to try it just for satisfying my intellectual curiosity Lol !

If you have a prescription, try Zenni for glasses. Search web or this site for information about it.

PS Look for coupons to lower cost.

There is a difference between an eye exam and a vision test. $10 bucks for a test that may not pick up an astigmatism, but probably can handle straight forward correction can't be all wrong. But any vascular issues, diabetes signs, retina problems...etc, that's a different ballgame, so set expectations accordingly.

It does have a scientific validity, and eyewear industry adamantly lobbied against it a few years ago. It's not a cost saving measure for optical insurance company since they are owned and operated by an eyewear industry.

They want you to spend money on exam, frames, lense, insurance, etc. It's all operated by a few companies.

This is not approved by FDA last I checked. Not because it's inaccurate, but because eyewear industry wants you to spend money on eye exams.
