Got the weekly promo code from fry's this past weekend.
Yamaha Aventage RX-A870BL is on sale for 498$. Free shipping. Great deal to get it shipped to you w/o tax if you do not have a fry's nearby.

Sooo those who may wonder: I chose to wait for a deal on a Yamaha Aventage over getting the favored Denon x3400H.

From what I have researched the auto EQ'ing is near comparable between the XT32 Audyssey (denon) and this unit's YPAO - RSC (w/ multipoint). [Keep in mind that the auto EQ on the Yamaha's have three levels, basic YPAO, YPAO + RSC, and YPAO + RSC (multi). Reading across several forums and comparisons from those who have actually owned both denon/yamaha receivers, I found that more people preferred the yamaha.. (take this with a grain of salt though, of course: people preferred the ypao for music, denon for HT use).

Also have noted that the yamaha has better control from its 'App' and is more 'reliable'/runs cooler than the denon's. (I do not want to replace my receiver anywhere in the next 10 years hopefully)...But i have not read anyone's denon's ever failing either so may be a null point.

Keep in mind though that the 3400H does support EQ for dual subs, whereas the 870 does not [both have dual sub output].

Take the above anecdotally; do your own research, YMMV! Not all listening spaces are the same, not everyone has the same speakers, tastes in sound, etc...

Universal promo code : 2288 works on this.

This deal is more 'slick' imo than the previous deal for the yamaha 770 @ 379... but what you are paying for are the extra features of ypao rsc multipoint and the most important thing for me (pre outs).
If you purchase something through a post on our site, Slickdeals may get a small share of the sale.

One clear advantage for the x3400 is the 3 HDMI outputs. One is a monitor 2 of the main zone and one is an independent zone so that you can display two different HDMI sources simultaneously.

I use the independent HDMI out regularly on my x3300. I can watch two different sporting events at same time as i have a small 32" display in the same room with my 65" OLED.

I think the dual sub EQ is a cool feature too as I have two different sealed subs and they get EQ'd independently and then together. Plus all 8 HDMI inputs are HDCP 2.2 on the Denon whereas the Yamaha only has 3 of 8 HDMI 2.2 inputs.

The Yamaha app Is much better than the Denon app though. Plus the Yamaha has bluetooth transmit and receive while the Denon only has bluetooth receive.

Awesome deal. I bought same in June on front page SD for $100 more. If your considering this, buy it. You will not regret at this price.

I paid $698 for my 1070 from Fry's a few months ago. Just mentioning in case someone needs more than this lower level Aventage can provide.

I have a 7.2 Yamaha receiver I purchased over 6 years ago for $500 and it's amazing. Doesn't get too warm, sounds nice, tons of inputs and outputs, and I even spilled water on it once (auto turned off). These things are worth every penny imo.

Wow...I picked up the RX-A770 for $399 price matched to amazon 2 weeks ago from Best Buy to separate the Front L/R and Bi-Amp them. I wish there was a Fry's in NY Frown

This def has a more premium feel than A770 and multi-channel out plus you get 5W more (100W per channel / 2 channel driven).

Yamaha runs so cool compared to Denon. I had the X4400 that I returned within 2 weeks and just got the RX-A3080. The fan on the Denon would run all the time and it got HOT !

I had my parents buy this a week ago to replace their 18 year old marantz which lost the right channel.

I reserved it and had my dad go buy it. The one that frys gave him looked like it had been opened and retaped. I'll check the box and contents tonight as I'll be in town. I called frys and they said: 1) They routinely check stock when it arrives and not to worry 2) It could be a brand new unit that was returned which had to be opened to check. Either way, there is 30 day returns and can swap for another one.

Just a heads up

So I have an Onkyo receiver that has been giving my sub issues. I get nasty rattle-like sound when I turn it up past a certain volume. I took the sub to get repaired by a local speaker tech, and he said the sub was fine. So I have to assume it's the receiver.

If I buy this amp, will I be able to use the Onkyo speakers that came packaged on this Yamaha amp?

I've ordered from fry's and received open box items as well. I also used to run an electronics store when I was younger. No one opens boxes to check contents. You're not allowed to sell open boxed items as new. Probably a customer return, but very shady. You always wonder why someone returned it and what they may have done to it.

I'm eyeing this up to replace my older Yamaha receiver that doesn't process sound from my Roku (Amazon Prime, Netflix, Spectrum, etc.) or other streaming devices properly. Can anyone confirm that this one will? Currently my receiver interprets 2 channels from those devices no matter what the setting on the Roku is.
Thanks for any advice!

Yeah, I wasn't thrilled. I even told my dad to watch out for an open box. I'll check it today and decide what to do

I believe it should. The feature you are looking for is e- arc. Enhanced audio return. You could always send a separate audio cable from your device to the receiver
