Got two of these last year on the same deal, both are still going strong. Highly recommended! Put one in my living room and the other one in my bedroom. Sounds weird but I rarely sneeze in my house anymore. I have a cat and no longer wake up with congestion.

I'm wondering if it can be powered on/off at the plug/outlet level without a user hitting a power button on the machine. Hoping to automate when this runs on schedule.

So the carbon filter is mostly for odors (and large particles)? I think I would be fine without a washable one (5500).
