Basic answer for me is that its easier and cheaper to upgrade your set-top box when the software becomes more advanced than the hardware, also, far more likely that the firmware updates and other support will last longer on the set-top box

If you have the sound system the sound from the embedded roku isn't as good as a stand alone. Hmdi arc is not as good as it claims
