Have a wrapping paper-less holiday!

720 314 November 23, 2018 at 05:32 PM
A post to remind people to use earth-friendly alternatives in wrapping gifts! Comics, newspaper, magazines, old maps, brown paper from packaging can all make excellent giftwrap! Reuse things you already have instead of using wrapping paper that will then end up sitting in a landfill. Thanks for reading!! Smilie

"In the U.S., an additional 5 million tons of waste is generated during the holidays. Four million tons of this is wrapping paper and shopping bags." EEK!

"People in the trash business will tell you: Wrapping paper is just solid waste with a pretty face."

I did this last year. I re-purposed brown paper grocery bags and wrote the song lyrics, "brown paper pacges tied up with string. these are a few of my favorite things!" on them. Tied the up with twine and attached pinecones and fresh holly. They were very pretty!

What is the point of wrapping oversized gifts, just have the person close their eyes.

Get the gift bags and just re-use them year after year.

Sure as heck beats wrapping stuff, too.

Yep, plus, you can use them to store ornaments and decorations.

I do this. We all have bags with our names on them from previous years. Sometimes I use bandanas or other pieces of fabric. I reuse ribbon too, or add a small ornament instead of a bow.

Does it count if I just spray-paint the Amazon box the gift arrived in? No wrapping paper!

Agreed! Kinda silly and such a waste of paper. Just hide them until giving them. Put a blanket over them or something. Or sure, eye closing works hehe.

That's great!! I reuse all the giftbags (and save them from others when others are the kind to throw them out o_0), ribbon, tissue paper etc. At the end of every mass opening with others I collect all the ribbon and tissue paper and bags if other people aren't going to keep them.
That's a good idea about bags with names!

I don't know how eco-friendly spray paint is, but I have many a time reused an amazon box and just stuck a bow or ribbon or something on it! It works!

I'm giving my wife some wrapping paper as a gift. Is it wrong to wrap the gift in wrapping paper?

Yes, it is, but I'm sure you can beat the wrap.

Good news. My new bow will be glad to hear I won't spend time in jail.
