Installation Pro Tips

Remove the Magnet from the contact sensor and apply it with the included 3m tape for a cleaner look and to reduce the sensor footprint. Bonus Points if you paint the magnet to blend in

You do not need to permanently mount the motion detectors, they can be hidden throughout the home (Bookshelves, inside master bedroom closet, Kitchen Counter, etc) Pick locations where they blend in and are not easily seen If you don't like the placement, they can be easily moved.

Do not open the Contact Sensor battery compartment. It is tamper proof and extremely difficult to reset.

Set up one sensor at a time.

FAQ - All details coming from https://shop.ring.com/pages/security-system

---How do I control Ring Alarm?
You can easily arm and disarm your system with the free Ring App, which works with iOS and Android devices. You can also use the Keypad if you're indoors and not near your phone or tablet. Ring Alarm offers you three Security Modes to control your system:

Away activates your entire system.
Disarmed deactivates your system.
Home activates select sensors to fit your needs

---What happens if the power or internet goes out?
Ring Alarm comes with a 24-hour backup battery that kicks in whenever the power at home goes out. You can also get cellular backup with a Ring Protect Plus Plan so your system can stay online during an outage.

---How do I sign up for 24/7 professional monitoring?
You can sign up for 24/7 professional monitoring by purchasing a Ring Protect Plus Plan. Ring Protect Plus also gives you cellular backup, video recording and sharing for unlimited Ring Doorbells and Cameras at your home, extended warranties and exclusive discounts.

All Ring Alarm Security Kits come with a free 30-day trial of Ring Protect Plus. After that you can opt-in for only $10 a month or $100 a year.

Currently, Ring Alarm and the professional monitoring service are available only within the U.S. (excluding American Samoa, Guam, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) and Canada (excluding Quebec).

---Do I have to purchase the kit? Or can I buy it piece-by-piece?
The Ring Alarm Security Kit comes with everything you need to protect your home. The Base Station controls your entire Alarm system and is only available with the Security Kit.

Additional Contact Sensors, Motion Detectors, Keypads, Range Extenders and future Ring Alarm components can be purchased separately to expand the coverage of your system. These will connect with the Base Station at your home to protect your entire property.

Price is okay. Note door and window sensors are $20 each and motion sensors $30. However, look into the service as it's dirt cheap compared to any other monitoring service. Only $100/year for professionally monitored security with battery and cell phone backup and with an extended warranty on all your equipment as well as including cloud recording for all your ring cameras. That's what made me buy into the ring ecosystem so it's something to consider. Especially if you're paying $30/ month+ for a security system. So far I've been pretty happy with them. Set up is a breeze. Of course I haven't had to use the alarm system yet in an emergency.
Isn't this true?

I see that the Ring Alarm system can act as a burglar alarm and an intruder detection system. Can it also detect fires and carbon monoxide?

Yes, Ring Alarm can also trigger fire and carbon monoxide alarms but only if you've installed a FirstAlert Z-Wave Smoke/CO Alarm. As a part of Ring Alarm Professional Monitoring, if your alarm is triggered due to fire or carbon monoxide detection, fire rescue will be immediately dispatched. If you're enrolled in self-monitoring and your alarm is triggered due to fire or carbon monoxide detection, you will only receive alerts that you're system alarm has gone off and you will need to take action yourself.
Look up Alexa Guard, the Echo will be able to detect glass break sounds, smoke alarms, etc.

I have the ring alarm and I like it a lot. The cheap price for service was great as it included what I was already paying for my doorbell and spotlight camera.

The motion detector is useless for me though as it picks up my 30 pound dog on the lowest setting. Just an FYI. I really dont care about motion as much as opening doors/windows.
Also the contact sensors are very bulky, but I dont really mind.

Almost bought it. I have a lot of Z wave sensors from Vivint and Alarm.com but after some research Ring does not allow those on their system. You can add it but they won't notify you if someone opens that window or door. Pretty much defeats the purpose. Also my doorlock and Cameras needs to be compatible and Skybell since i don't want to buy a Ring bell just for this system. Looks like it's back to Vivint for me.

Thoughts on losing the ability to alert fire department? Haven't been able to solve that yet for me to be willing to downgrade to a system that doesn't cover the family.

I was under the impression that it would alert fire if I installed smoke detectors to the system. I haven't done that yet so I'm not sure if it's true.

I currently have ATT digital. Will my window and door contacts work with Ring? Or do I have to replace them all.

If you get the first alert that is compatible, it will alert the fire department. I confirmed this and it shows on your certificate.

As somebody stated in the earlier thread, you can add Those sensors and the ring alarm will make a bling sound when you open the sensors, but they will not trip the alarm.
