Sprint reached out and tells us that the link in the OP is outdated and this one https://community.sprint.com/t5/E...-p/1033393 is the newer, corrected one.
I didn't want to edit the OP but if the OP wanted to edit to have this link.. that would be great.

Note: Sprint stated they were in the process of of migrating all SERO accounts to SWAC, so you can either initiate the move yourself if you wish, or wait until they eventually get to your account.

Here is the dedicated customer service email. [email protected]
When I last used it, they took a full day to reply, but did so personably and thoroughly.

Looking for some advice. My parents each have their own SERO line and currently have an iPhone 6 and iPhone 7. They are looking to upgrade their phones. In order to get them into iPhone 11s could I convert one of their accounts to SWAC and then take advantage of the "buy an iPhone 11 and lease one free" by
  1. Opening a new SWAC line under the converted line
  2. Cancelling the unconverted SERO line

Quote from masupo :
I have SWAC & I just helped a friend in your situation convert from SERO to SWAC. She had 2 subsidized iPhone SE's from a couple years ago and wanted to upgrade. She was super paranoid about losing her SERO. I don't know for sure that they would have forced her to change to a regular Sprint plan, but rather than risk it, I gave her SWAC info. Better than fighting to keep SERO. It's basically the same plan, only cheaper & with added perks.

She converted 2 lines to $40 SWAC & leased two iPhone 11's for only $15/month more than SERO. Plus Amazon Prime, Hulu etc is added value.

SERO data is truly high-speed & unlimited, but no hotspot. 50/100gb hotspot on SWAC is worth it to my friend - trade off is occasional deprioritization (rarely happens in my experience). SERO has more domestic data roaming. SWAC has unlimited talk/text & 10GB or unlimited data in Canada & Mexico depending on which level you choose.

The entire process was very quick. She filled out the conversion request on a Thursday and heard back from the conversion team by that night. They converted the plan, but it wasn't effective til the following Tuesday (her billing date). She ordered leased phones on Friday and they arrived on Monday (with upgraded shipping). Plan changed on Tuesday and she activated phones with no issues

When you order the new phones, ignore the message that warns about needing to change your plan upon activation. I saw that mentioned I think on this thread and they were correct. You can still order the phones even with that error message.

Seems like it could be doable, but I'm assuming the second parent would have to give up his or her existing telephone number unless you can port the SERO line's phone number to the newly created SWAC line.

I'm a bit confused. I've had SERO since the beginning. I currently have the iPhone 6 which still works but is getting slow. I think I'll keep SERO instead of converting to SWAC (although very tempting) until I see what happens with the T-mobile merger.

With that said, I'd like to upgrade to a new phone. I only see options for lease or paying full retail on Sprints website. When I try to do a lease a yellow message pops up saying I'll need to change my plan when I activate my phone as my plan is not compatible. Is that true?

If I were to buy a used phone can I activate it on SERO without my plan changing? What's the best way to reach employee accounts and activate a used phone? I remember there was a special phone #. I don't have a SIM card so I don't think I could activate online.

That is my question too. I get that Sprint is converting SERO plans to SWAC plans. What I cannot figure out is what phones I can use. If I stay with SERO what phones can I buy? If I switch to SWAC what phones can I buy? Sprint is sending me "Cyber Monday" ads, but I do not know if my plan is even eligible to use those phones.

I stopped keeping up with the crazy SERO rules when the Sprintusers forum went away. Great job by Sprint not to put up a simple FAQ to explain this to us users.

You can upgrade through Sprint only. I was able to bring my own unlocked iPhone 11 and with Sprint SWAC.

Right, you have to buy or lease. If you want the old way, sign a contract and get a free phone, go to T Mobile. They are doing free iphones with contract.

Yes, you can buy a phone off ebay and activate it on SERO. That is what I did last time. I cannot tell you which phones you can activate because there were 4 SERO levels over the years, $30/$40/$50/$60, each with its own list of phones. That is one good thing about SWAC. The SWAC rules explicitly say phone eligibility is the same as regular Sprint plans.

You should be able to get a SIM card from Sprint free for the asking. If not from the 800#, go to sprint.com/storelocator and look for stores that have a check mark next to Employee/AdvantageClub

I've been given two numbers to call for SERO service, 1-866-264-1282 and 888-876-8381. I've also been told if you call *2 from a SERO phone, it will automatically direct you to the correct CSRs. YMMV. Do not deal with the regular CSRs, they simply tell you to give up SERO. I activated my last phone via chat, but I know some people think you cannot do that with SERO. Heck, I had one person tell me they activated a phone for SERO in Best Buy, and I had another person tell me she tried the same thing and Best Buy said they could not deal with SERO. So it is really YMMV.

Using a Galaxy S8 on SERO right now. Anyone know if I can use an S10 on my SERO plan? Tried some research/reading this thread but couldn't find much. That S10 deal on Amazon is making me think twice about upgrading to an S10.. TIA!

As long as the phone is US model and unlocked it should be fine. I'm on sero and I'm using a pixel 3 that I bought from Amazon last week.

Just go to a corporate owned store (bring your new phone) and ask for a Sim card for your new phone.

They'll give it to you and maybe they can activate it in store but they couldn't do it for me so I activated online. Took like 5 minutes to activate online.

Ok thanks for the help everyone. Do all new phones activations need a SIM card now? Just curious because I've never had one with Sprint. I guess having a SIM card would make it easier in the future to swap out phones.

Also, does anyone know about leasing with Sero? When I try to do it online it says that my plan is incompatible and that I will have to pick a new plan before activating the phone when it arrives.

For what it's worth...tried calling the # ending in 8381. Customer rep said they handle employee accounts but didn't seem very familiar with them.

According to her if I lease a phone it counts as a upgrade and I would have to change my plan. But if I pay full retail or buy a used phones I can just activate it without a plan change.

If you get an unlocked phone from somewhere other than Sprint, you will need a compatible Sprint SIM card to activate it on your Sprint line (unless the phone supports eSIM).

If you buy/lease a phone directly from Sprint, it will come with a Sprint SIM card preinstalled in the phone unless it supports eSIM, in which case a physical SIM card is not needed. (For example, I recently leased a Pixel 3 which supports eSIM, so I didn't need to bother with the SIM card.

No, I converted to SWAC many months ago.

Unless you are a heavy data user and are likely to be affected by the potential for deprioritization (i.e., >50GB per month and you live in a data congested area), then there's really no good reason not to make the jump to SWAC given all the extra freebies, not to mention the fact it's a lot cheaper if you don't need Tidal Hifi or Amazon Prime than SERO Premium ($30/month vs. $50/month).
