When it was brought to North America by Viz, they bisected the series to match the change in the anime name. So here, we have 1-16 as Dragon Ball, then 1-26 as Dragon Ball Z.

I think this is just the original Dragonball....when Goku was a kid. Not the Dragonball Z when he's an adult with Vegeta, Freeze, Cell etc.
