I sent mine back. Still, very much, a work in progress. Went back to my TiVo OTA.

I was between a Tivo Bolt OTA and this. This has no service fees so its up for a try. I just use OTA and record about 5-10 shows a week TOPS.

Tried HDHomerun, and had mouth sync issues, then the Tablo and it kept crashing (like every 15 minutes) so that was unusable. Used to use Windows Media Center edition which was good.

Seems to work pretty well..I've seen some oddities with the series record feature but otherwise seems pretty stable.

What specifically did you have an issue with? Seems like online reviews are praising it, might be lacking some features but overall looks to be great.

For a spouse that only wants an OTA DVR solution, and a dead simple one at that, the Recast interface was just too cluttered and convulted. Fine for me. Plus tonnes of buffering and stuttering off the same antenna that worked ok with the TiVo. Note this was during the first month they were available. Maybe they've changed things now for the better?

Understood. Buffering was probably because of the network layer. Thank you for the feedback.

It's much better now. I've had it since December sale. They had a few updates since then. Channels load quickly on fire TV home devices. Channel guide in order now. Before it was a mess. For mobile access. Out of home. It's still unorganized. iOS channels iPad or iPhone so much slower to load. 5 seconds vs Android which loads in 2 seconds. So the software favors Android. Overall very happy with device. I still have DirecTV satellite. Just not ready to cut the cord yet since I'm still getting great deal on direct TV retentions. But it's so useful for mobile access for me outside the home and traveling since not all local channels available outside home.

How simple is it setting up recordings? Especially for series. Also is there still no commercial skip button like TiVo has?

RIP WMC Frown after upgrading all my machines to Win10 and tried to get a hold of a WMC key to purchase, I gave up and eventually stopped bothering with OTA DVR (tried a few devices after that but nothing was as easy or convenient w/o monthly fees).

Recording is simple. Literally takes me 10 seconds to setup recording tv series. It was more of a beta version when it launch in November 2018. They have enabled usb external storage now. So really no need for the 1TB version. As for tivo like...no. It's not at the TiVo level. They allow to delete recordings from mobile device outside the home etc. just google the software tweaked they made. No commercial skip yet. It's gonna to come. Amazon has supported the product well. Remember they are selling the product for lower price than competitors (when u have to consider adding plex etc).

Yeah. Considering I had this recast since December. When I first got it. Got tons of not able to connect error on mobile fire app to recast. But with all the software tweaks. I don't get those error messages anymore. I watched ncaa March madness final four games without a single glitch. Not saying 100% glitch free. But it doesn't happen very often any more. I like the recast. I'm just debating whether to cut the cord or not. I'm so ready. Have to convince the wife. She likes her women's channel. So I can add philo $16 to integrate into the fire recast channel guide seamlessly.
