Deal requires purchase of an AT&T PREPAID phone from either a Walmart store or from walmart.com. It does not have to be a smartphone. The Cingular Flip 2 also works.
If you have no intention of using the Walmart phone and want to swap to a different phone, verify the Walmart phone you buy has the same size SIM card as the phone you want to use (most use nanoSIM cards these days). To be safe, use the Walmart phone until your bonus data appears on your account.
Online activation does not give you an option to port your number. It will only give you a new number based on the zip code you enter during activation. Try calling customer service to activate if you wish to port your number over.
If you activated your phone with a new number and wish to port your old number over to it after the fact, read the warning below:
Warning about porting after activation: YMMV Several users are reporting that they aren't receiving the 17GB of bonus data after porting their number over and only receiving 8GB of bonus from the regular AT&T deal. Many are getting the runaround and being told to wait the entire 10 days to see if the full 17GB shows up. At least one user has so far and still hasn't received it. AT&T has escalated their case and they're waiting to hear back (https://slickdeals.net/forums/showpost.php?p=

This deal is valid until first week of September. Spoke with a ATT rep last night, she said this is a new deal and she will be following my account to see if I get 17 GB bonus or not because I changed the sim, phone and port in my number on the same day (7/3) I bought the prepaid cards. Still waiting for 17 GB bonus data to kick in

1) if there are too many return at&t will catch on and probably take away the bonus data and put the line in the 8gb regular plan
2) one someone else purchases the open box item from Walmart and activates the system might remove the imei from your account and assign it to the new owner.
For $40 I won't risk this at all. Because there's quite a bit of work to get this promo. For this reason not even selling the phone on Craigslist since activation of the phone in any other account may trigger loss of the promo from your account.
If this doesn't happen consider yourself lucky, but since they are calling it a promo data I am sure they can actually put all lines back to the 8gb plan whenever they want to!
That being said I think its only fair if we keep the phone because Walmart/ATT are already giving us a great deal and we should respect their intentions to sell their phone rather than finding loopholes in their terms

Target also has buy 1 get 1 10% off, plus additional 5% off with Target red card.
eBay may also have some discounted cards but those are harder to find.
7/4: Received the 17 GB Promo Data
7/4: Ported number from Sprint and Swapped Sim to my S10, still have 17GB Promo Data
7/4: Had to login to and set up the auto pay again.
So looks like I am all set for now! Good luck guys. I did wait to get the Promo before porting in from Sprint. I was able to get US based customer service today and everything was painless and setup and running in less than 10 mins.
Unlocked S10 not having options for VOLTE or Wifi Calling, will try flashing the AT&T ROM and report back!
I may try getting the deal again because 17GB of data would be nice. I settle for the extra 8GB but it may not be enough, hah

So much misinformation given by customer service. It was even a manager who told me I would lose the promotion due to numbers in different markets. That's concerning haha

I'm a little unclear on AT&T's multi-line discount schedule. What should 5 lines run me, all in?
Thanks.

purchased from callingmart!

For the 8gb plan, it will be $50 in auto-pay discounts for 5 lines, and $60 in discounts for group discount, for a total of $110 discount off the list price of $250 ($50 x 5 lines).
So total ends up being $140 for 5 lines, or $120 for 4 lines.
What are the reasons you need VoLTE or wifi calling? Are you frequently out of ATT's network?
And perhaps it may take some time for the VoLTE / wifi calling to take effect with your unlocked s10? Who knows how it works given how long it took to get the bonus data.

They'll probably face a lot of returns anyway, since most of the worthwhile prepaid phones at Walmart are gone now, like the iphone 7 plus I got. That's one indication that they weren't expecting such a big response to the promotion (slickdeals effect), since otherwise they probably could have sold a lot of the higher-end Galaxy and other phones that are on the ATT prepaid site. It also explains why getting the 17GB activated has a backlog but it happening.
