Just picked up a Lenovo S340 for $429 (tax free) from Staples in Daytona Beach,FL. Online it shows $489, but I accidentally stumbled upon it when I Googled Lenovo S340 and selected the "Shopping " tab in Google (Screenshot attached). Went down to the store to check it out and they had it in store for $429.(photo attached).
15.6 screen
1080p screen
i5-8265U
256 GB SSD
8GB RAM
Backlit keyboard
The Google description says "Touchscreen", but the one I picked up is not. Still a good deal IMHO considering the $399 S340 "Hot Deal" from WalMart has a 768p screen and 128GB SSD and no backlit keyboard.

Can you share the deal link or brickseek link please?
Uhhhh link?
I just returned the Walmart one ($299) for the Staples deal.
Is this what you are referring to: https://slickdeals.net/f/13209337-lenovo-ideapad-s340-laptop-i3-8145u-15-6-8gb-ddr4-128gb-ssd-299-fr...
If so, there is a difference:
i3 vs i5
768p vs 1080p
128GB SSD vs 256GB SSD
Not backlit vs backlit keyboard
Worth the $129 for the upgrade, but yeah if there is a better deal, pls share the link. I'll get a couple for $100 less

Let me tell you, sir: the screen on my wife's Dell laptop is most certainly not "acceptable". Tilt that sucker up or down a few degrees and all the colors and contrast change. How that would acceptable to anyone I don't know.
Muskets at dawn!
[BTW, I have told here that all laptops are like that - don't want to be needlessly buying another one].
But once I arrived at the store, the display did show the same price tags as shown in your pictures, so I don't think it's a YMMV case, just limited advertising maybe.
What is the benchmark on this PC?
MORE importantly how is the battery life?

Also note that the 379 one was not available during the tax holiday whereas the 429 was and probably is. So, if you bought the 379 with sales tax, you probably paid around 405 depending on the tax rate/location. That make the 429 one an even better deal with a screen and storage upgrade for just 24 bucks.
Sadly this screen is abysmal. It's actually one of the worst TN panels I've ever laid eyes on. I can't believe we still use displays like this in 2019.
It'll be going back tomorrow. A shame, because it's a quick, sleek computer but the display absolutely kills it.
