According to Crucial that laptop is upgradeable to max 32GB ram. A 4GB SODIMM is about $20. But that one also has 2 core CPU vs 4 core, and SSD is only half the size. So the Acer in this post is a LOT more laptop for that extra $60-70.

Thoughts on this? Seems to check a lot of boxes in the cpu, ram, ssd, and screen department.

Seems like a walmart exclusive model. Some of the 2019 aspire 5 laptops are the best budget laptops to be had because the screen is 1080p ips with 276 nits rivaling ultrabook screens from 2 years ago.

Sadly after looking at specs on acer website there is no mention of ips, only 1080p. You can assume tn panel here

I would personally get this with an extra 4gb stick of ram and save about $70:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Displ...166&sr=8-3

This one has ips 276 nits, not a budget 210 nits ips or even worse, a tn panel like the ops model

Yes display is probably the most important thing to me when it comes to a laptop along with a minimum ryzen 3 or i3 cpu

I don't understand what u mean an extra 4gb of ram. That laptop has only 4gb and I don't see any option to upgrade?

I bought this one for my dad when it was $499.
The screen is TN panel, mediocre viewing angle at worst, color on this screen is also terrible. Otherwise, it's a great machine, everything works really fast

Laptop in OP = shitty screen, better CPU
Laptop suggested on amazon = actually ok screen, slightly weaker cpu (may be plus because battery life and size)

SSD is usually upgrade-able as well if we're going to pop the system open anyways.

With a laptop, a screen is probably more important than the raw CPU power, probably not gonna be doing huge data crunches on the road for most people.

I know some people mention that they replaced the screen on their laptops with a better IPS screen. Considering some lower quality IPS screens, like Dell often uses, are no better than TN, how much would a decent IPS screen cost for this?

Also anyone know if it has a backlit keyboard? And is the RAM soldered?

All the specs you want in a low to mid tier laptop but with a very decent ips screen not a low end ips.

Edit: not sure anymore. Im seeing mixed reviews on this models display whereas the cheaper i3 version is relatively bright.
