No thanks. I was burned by AT&Ts grandfathered promo for Directv Now. Had a clause that basically said they could raise the rate when they wanted to.

5G won't have as much coverage area as LTE because of higher frequency band. We will have spots for 5G initially and then slowly cover block, street, town, city, state, and then whole country. Don't think because you hear 5G a lot means we are there, it's a really long roadmap which will take at least 3-4 years.

I don't think you have " few free unlimited lines with tmobile"....that is a simple lying..
there was a "free for life" data line limited to 200Mb data/per month (less than 10 minutes you-tube watching normally, you run out of data) ...
No carrier provides FREE unlimited lines.
T-Mobile had a this one is on us promo, I added an unlimited LTE tablet line, it is still free, no taxes.

sorry, I apologize, I missed "this one is on us promo" deal, that is great deal --congrats..
I have 5 lines data on "free for life" 200M with ZTE Sync , it is more than enough for GPS tracking/report info for my cars.

If you received your free lines while on Simple Choice... here's what you do:

1) Make 1 line (if it isn't already) a Mobile Internet line under Simple Choice. You get up to a $25 credit (or $35 credit if it's an older line), so make it the 6GB MI version, not the 2GB version.

2) Turn BingeOn to "on" for that line.

3) Get an Alcatel LinkZone for the MI line's sim. (EDIT: I see T-Mobile has the Coolpad SURF. I use the LinkZone and it works great. I don't know/haven't used the SURF.)

It's essentially an Unlimited line now.... you can stream all the music and video (Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, YouTube, etc., etc.) without any of it coming out of your data. It'll stream in 720p HD. (1080p tends to stutter...)

Cost will be $1.16 a month in tax.

I purchased a little zippered pouch in Best Buy to carry it and the charger around in. We've been using the LinkZone for our whole-home internet solution for 2.5 years now... works AWESOME! Kicked Comcast to the curb!
Thanks. I have 2 of these free lines from that time that I'm doing nothing with. I also pay $10/month for an iPad data line. So I could convert both to mobile internet lines, use one in the iPad and the other in an obd device in-car?

You could.... although I generally steer clear of plugging in any kind of OBD device anymore. One damaged my car's battery. YMMV. I would just pop the sim into a portable hotspot instead if you wanted to go that route. As I said, I'm using the Alcatel LinkZone. Works great!

I've been investigating this and chatting with T-Mobile on Twitter since you got me interested in this idea yesterday. I'm not getting very far. They are saying I can't convert the line to SyncUp Drive

There is not a specific discount for converting one of your existing voice lines. The discount is applied to the cost of the mobile internet line, for some of our mobile internet plans you can get a $10 discount if you have a voice line with T-Mobile. In your case, the SyncUP plan would not qualify for the additional $10 off because we have priced it as low as possible for people that may not have voice lines.

They don't understand what I'm asking, and I'm having trouble explaining.

The mobile internet plans for hotspot devices are priced the same as the SyncUP plans, so if you wanted to get 6 GB of data on that line it would still be $25 a month. I know we are looking to get you the most bang for your buck and I want to provide you with the best possible resolution. Reviewing your info I have a solution that I think would be perfect for you. If you did have a phone for that line you no longer used, I can give that line unlimited data and then you would have 10 GB that you can use specifically for hot spot. It would still be $20 a month but you would be able to get 10 GB to use on the go instead of 6 GB priced at $25.

I'm trying to get them to clarify if changing it to a mobile internet line, as you've suggested, would affect the amount of credit I receive for the line, making it $5/month plus taxes.

I also can't see that BingeOn is included anymore, although unclear if that would carry over if I converted an existing Simple Choice line.

If you're trying to do what I did, you don't want to ask for a SyncUp line.... See the line on your bill ending in "89" that you're getting for free? Ask them to see if you can change this to a 6GB Mobile Internet (MI) line for free. I believe (at least at one time) they used to let you change the free voice lines to free MI lines (but not the reverse...) Contact T-Force and ask them if they'll allow you a one-time courtesy to change line types and allow you to keep it free. Ask for the 6GB (not the 2GB...) Free lines have a $25 credit limit, and the 6GB will work.)

After you do this (if you're successful), then put your sim in a hotspot & turn BingeOn to "on."

Keep us informed what happens here... I'm curious to see if they'll still allow you to do this!

Why you say I am lying? I have 7 lines with tmobile, 3 of them are free lines voice/text/unlimited lines. All I pay is tax on those lines. I also have a 200mb data only line but never use. Sorry if you didn't get in on the T-mobile free line deals a few years ago. Search SD tmobile free lines. I think it was back on BF 2016/2017 and again in February 2017/2018.

Depends on the vehicle brand. Looks like they list 26 car brands that have built-in WiFi where you don't need to use the OBD plugin. I know Buick started getting it in 2015.

There are so many different comments in this thread that I can't keep up with the simple conversation of whether you can carefully open the Spark, remove the SIM, and put it inside of a hotspot like an unlocked MiFi or unlocked T-Mobile hotspot because of the IMEI isn't an AT&T device. I'd buy a Netgear Nighthawk hotspot or the LB1120 as long as it would work with the SIM inside of the Spark for this price. Would be awesome to have such a cheap hotspot plan for this price on AT&T. Right now I'm only on T-Mo postpaid with two lines and both have unlimited data and even tethering my phone to my laptop I've been able to grab 230GB in a single month back when I was in the hospital. I'm all about trying to game the system, and I know the iPad DataConnect plan would work with one of these hotpsot routers but this is a cheaper option so it'd be nice to know if I could pull this one off without AT&T trying to boot me from their service since it's probably against their ToS whether it's actually listed on there or not.

So is the $25 a month truly unlimited but the $15 a month plan is unlimited upto 22 gb then possible throttling?

Thanks!

Really appreciate your post ... didn't know what to do with my free lines while my Comcast internet keeps dropping several times during the day. Just called Tmo to convert 1 free line to mobile internet line 6Gbs for $25/mo which will be free after $25 discount monthly for that line. Bought Alcatel Linkzone on ebay for $40 and will make it my primary wifi at home once I receive it.
