1500 in-lbs is 125 ft-lbs, less than the 130 dewalt unit OP posted.......

Real world use it's only run into a couple issues backing bolts out, but they were bolts my 3/8" air couldn't move either and I moved to 1/2" drive. Anything up to a 14mm head this thing really shines, any bigger and I might get surprised, but I don't expect it to always handle things like engine mount bolts or brakes/suspension fasteners.

Of course for someone new to tools I'd spend my money on a 1/4" Impact driver with a 3/8" drive adapter first, as the anvil is singular purpose, but for working on cars I haven't really seen that 130ft number as something that has limited me.

The bummer is if you don't have a charger

130 is a good number for this. You don't need bolt snapping power in a 3/8.

They rate them different, compare the MAC versions which are same as DeWalt but they rate way higher "break away torque" just like Milwaukee

This is the old brushed version. Neither usually goes onsale so this is decent.

I gave up waiting and converted an 887 impact driver to 3/8" anvil instead

I was recently looking at an Impact Wrench but came to the issue that my Impact Driver (2000 in-lb) is rated for about the same torque? Am I missing something?

I ended up getting the "mid-range" Dewalt, which is rated for I think 350 ft-lb, but am still confused about why this tool exists?

I cannot imagine your impact driver has the same torque as an impact wrench. Are you sure you are not comparing in. lbs with ft. lbs?

If you're working on rusty old suspensions or big trucks, then by all means get the big higher torque impact wrenches. But if your torque needs are more modest, such as top side engine work or replacing head gaskets on lawn equipment, then this little impact wrench may be perfect.

The listed spec for the Dewalt XR Impact Driver has 2000 in-lb which seems roughly equal to 150 ft-lb (I think)?
