Secret Santa 2019 - You will need to mail your gift by December 7 THIS SATURDAY!!!

7,098 3,609 October 19, 2019 at 03:49 PM in Chat
I'll be coordinating Secret Santa again this year. I'll add the forms to this post in the next week. I wanted to give everyone a heads up as to this year's deadline dates. Sign up will end on November 10, and your gift will need to be shipped by Saturday, December 7. I realize this gives everyone a few days shy of a the normal month for shopping, but I won't be able to assign gifter/giftee anytime the week before due to a previous engagement.

While you may certainly indicate that you are participating, in this thread, you won't be an actual participant until you complete the official form, once posted.

PLEASE NOTE- to take part in this gift exchange, you must have been a Slick Deals member for at least 6 months, plus you must have either 500 posts or 100 reputation points.

Hope we have lots of participants this year!

The Rules
You need to have been a member for at least six months with 500 posts OR 100 reps.

This is not to exclude new members, but it goes much more smoothly, if you've been around long enough to know other members and for them to know you. If you don't have enough posts/reps this for this years Secret Santa, we hope you can join us next year.

You need to sign up, and complete your SS questionnaire, to be posted in this thread, by Sunday, November 10. You won't be an actual participant until you complete the both the questionnaire AND the participation form (seen only by me), linked below. You will receive your "giftee's" name by the evening of November 11.

Please watch for a PM from me requesting your info. You're not official in SS until you answer my PM.

You will need to mail your gift by December 7.

To help get the word out, please post this in your siggy, so that others will know to sign up.

To keep this fair and fun, please shop and ship as early as you can. Things happen and sometimes life gets in the way of our good intentions. The earlier you are prepared, the better this will go for everyone!

Once you send your gift, please PM me the tracking number.

You must get a delivery confirmation and a tracking number just in case the gift gets lost in the mail or if there is any confusion about if the package has been delivered or not.

Just a tip for those of you who do not ship much, Regional Boxes with the post office allow you to fill that sucker up as heavy as you can get it for a flat rate depending on the region you are shipping to and includes free insurance up to $50 and free tracking. You can check them out here: Regional Rate Boxes [usps.com]

I will confirm that I have everything I need by PM also. You are NOT officially participating until you get a PM from me stating so.

As with every year, this address will only be seen by me and the person who is sending you the gift. Under no circumstances will your address ever be given out to anyone else. If it's found someone has given out another person's address they got from the Secret Santa they will be banned from this and future Secret Santas.

I can only put your name on the list of participants once I have received your shipping address. You can't sign up without putting in your address, so there you have it.

Spending limit is $25.00, plus shipping. Spending more is your choice. We are all deal shoppers, but please spend the appropriate amount. No one should receive a box of stuff you've gotten for free. You may include extra, or samples, but that should not comprise your entire gift. As always, thoughtful, handmade goodies are great! Please pay attention to the questionnaire. Also, if you have any allergies or sensitivities to food or fragrance, please state that on your form.

You will need to fill out the Secret Santa questionnaire found in the wiki.
Please fill this out as much as you can. It will make it easier for your Secret Santa to find something you truly like if you answer it completely.

1.) Sign up through the form link on or before November 10th if you want to participate. There will also be a list in the wiki of people who are participating. Please include your name there as well. I will add as I can, too.

2.) You will see a questionnaire in this post. Please answer those questions and make a new post with those answers. I, you, or someone will link your questionnaire post with your name in the wiki.

3.) You will receive the name and address of the person you get to play Secret Santa for on November 11th. Give me til the end of the day. It takes a while to match everyone and PM you all without messing up. When I PM you your SS's name, come here, click on the person's name in the wikipost to be taken to their questionnaire and what they've said they'd like.

4.) Get it all ready and ship by Dec 7. Make sure to get the delivery confirmation and tracking number. Please fill out the tracking info google form that you have shipped it and the tracking number.

5.) Please PM me when you have received your gift.

6.) Jump up and down with joy. A present!! You can post in the thread you received it and if you opened it (if you want to wait til Christmas, please do, but it's up to you and you don't have to), you can share what you got if you like. I know the people that bought for you like to see, and appreciation, post with pictures.

7.) After Christmas Day we can all tell everyone who we shopped for. It will also be updated in the wiki. Please try to keep secret as much as you can who you are shopping for.

My condolences on the loss of your dad. hug My father died on Christmas day. An inexpensive solo road trip was really beneficial. Met some great people, found a wonderful place to stay, etc... Hope to make the trip again.

Any chance you can do something similar to have time to reflect and grieve?

Three months is no time at all. I'm sure it feels like yesterday. My dad has been gone 33 years and Christmas is still hard without him.

Lots on your plate this past year.

Solo road trips are the best for getting your thoughts together and doing some deep thinking.

I've been trying to plan something with a guy I have been dating. I am lonely and do not want to be alone, though I have traveled alone in the past. Problem is I work 6 days a week and never get any time off. It's a small company and I am second in command. Though I should probably just up and leave.

I'm so sorry you lost your father on Christmas Day. How did you cope the first year on Christmas? Comfort

Maybe you can grab a 4 day holiday weekend. The office will be okay if you take some personal days. We're coming up on year two. Last year I drove down Pacific Coast Highway from WA to CA on a whim.

It was a time to test the things my parents taught me. You take them and all their lessons with you. (Isn't that from Ghost?) Many times I was 20 miles in with no civilization and something would happen. Part of the rental car came off. laugh out loud The check engine light (?) lit up. EEK!

Same plan this year, just no CA. You should do something special but it doesn't need to happen right away. hug

Hello everyone. I just wanted to thank you all for the kind words of encouragement and condolences. It has been hard. Last night I was wrappng presents for my niece and nephew and other family members and came across a gift I had purchased for my Dad during the year to give to him for Christmas this year. I decided to gift it to my brother, but it was so hard to put a different name on the tag. I went ahead and put both my father AND brother on the tag and stuck it under the tree. My father had this thing where he passed out each gift individually on Christmas morning, and Christmas day would drag out! We would still be opening gifts at 2pm in the afternoon. This year I plan on wearing his Santa hat and taking over the job. heart

I love that idea! Your Dad would probably be so glad to see you stepping up and carrying on a tradition that he enjoyed. hug
