Did you install it on the SSD? Dual boot? What instructions did you follow? Did you change any settings in the BIOS or Mint startup?

I tried to make a live boot USB using rufus, but not getting very far. Gets past Grub menu and starts, but stalls out after about a dozen lines in the startup.

https://linuxmint-installation-gu.../boot.html

[I think same version https://linuxmint.com/edition.php?id=267]
Have installed Mint 100's of times. When I had trouble, 2 reasons. 1. Rufus. I use pendrivelinux or the site one Etcher. @. Corrupt iso. Did you hash check it? Download it again, James Madison U. Pm me if you want some help.

For those of you that wants to spend a bit more, i have a suggestion for another subcompact:

https://slickdeals.net/f/13732751-lenovo-thinkpad-l390-13-laptop-512-10-tax-13-3-fhd-ips-i5-8265u-touchscreen-8-gb-ddr4-128-gb-ssd-win-10-pro?p=133523066#post133523066

Lenovo L390. 13.3 inch 1080p touchscreen. TWO sodimm slots, TWO usb C with PD and DP video! 45whr battery claim to last over 10hrs. it uses i5-8250u (wish it was ryzen). all for $512. if you have student discount you can get it for a bit cheaper.
Also over half a pound heavier! Though the Lenovo will have better build quality and support. (I had a ThinkPad Yoga 12 before I got the Motile, which I got rid of after having the Motile a few days)

I am quite pleased with mine. Especially after the wifi and 16gb memory upgrades.

just upgraded mine to 32GB ram with this:

https://www.amazon.com/Samsung-26...op?ie=UTF8 [amazon.com]

worked great. probably the cheapest if not one of the cheapest 32gb sodim you can find out there. I actually bought another one also for another laptop.

you can never have enough ram. you might ask what's the point of anything more than 8gb ram?
well, with a lot of ram, you can completely disable the virtual memory and completely run from ram.

also I use ramdisk software which create a virtual ram based disk. ultrafast access time order of magnitude faster than ssd. the 4k read write speed is also multiple times faster as is the transfer speed. I set the system and windows temp folder to the ramdisk under environment variable. a lot of the temp files are now on the ramdisk...

also save wear on your ssd...

There's the reason for more than 16gb ram...
ShurakElectric tap
i'm tempted to go 32 GB...i just don't think i will ever need that much. what is the best 16 GB stick i can get for the $299 model?

Kept everything stock and it is good little light laptop. Mostly for schoolwork (google docs) and light browsing. Windows hello works like a charm. Depending on Credit card used, it should extend warranty by one more year so essentially 2 year's warranty on this 299 laptop. Lighter than LG gram and silver looks like MacBook Pro 💻 . Overall I am keeping this and happy with the purchase.

I also have the LG gram and love it. l would consider this a poor man's LG Gram.

Sure wish it would drop again to $299! Ready to buy at that price! It's $329 now, which isn't horrible, but that extra $29 could almost buy the extra 8Gb of ram that I want. Following this thread for price updates Wink

Not gonna do you any good unless you buy a 16gb chip at nearly double that. Single ram slot.

Someone said it best earlier: buy now think later. A real slickdealer mantra...lol....

Just buy now. If price goes down later, buy another and return with earlier receipt. You should buy now. Buy another one and return if price does goes down. This way you get to enjoy it sooner and is also getting the good price.

Also you need a 16gb sodimm. only have single slot for ram. But ebay does have some good ram deal sometimes, I scored a new 16gb sodimm for $35 the other day.

Imo the nvme is most important upgrade. Will make you new PC lightning fast on boot up and all areas

Isn't the stock one ssd already? So throw the stock one and replace with nvme?

Got a link of one you bought?

Motile M142 Ookla Speedtest Results on Gigabit Internet Connection

All stock, no tweaks of any kind.

2.4GHz - Download 51mbps / Upload 49mbps
https://www.speedtest.net/result/8864435555.png

5GHz - Download 252mbps / Upload 272mbps
https://www.speedtest.net/result/8864420743.png

Wired Ethernet - Download 702mbps / Upload 597mbps
https://www.speedtest.net/result/8864458350.png
Weird. I get 8mbps on the 2.4ghz and 55mbps on the 5ghz. Every other device on my network (PC/Mac/iPhone/Fire TV/etc) hits my ISP's max speed of 90mbps on either. I don't want to tweak my router settings much since it's very stable across all the other devices.

Any suggestions regarding tweaks I can run on the Motile itself? My plan is to eventually grab a 9260 but I don't plan on making that upgrade unless I'm sure I will be keeping this machine

Edit: I think it may be an issue of range. Moving closer to the router I can hit 90mbps on the 5ghz. Hopefully the 9260 will give this thing better range as well as throughput

There is only 1 ram slot, so you'd have to buy a 16gb/32 stick if you want to upgrade

I'm definitely upgrading the WiFi card, buying it off amazon. I almost guarantee there will be a mAJOR improvement. $12 well spent

Its the 3168 problem... Upgraded mine to ax200 and also maxed out my connection afterward

Yeah I picked one up for a different device a few months ago and it's been rock solid. Though that device (HP Thin Client) has an external antenna. Hopefully the antenna built into the Motile doesn't limit the range
