Anyone have any knowledge on how this compares to the kobalt set from Lowe's for 199?
This has two 4 ah batteries. Kobalt had a 2ah and a 4 ah. Kobalt deal is all brushless tools - only the multi-tool is brushless here. The dewalt flashlight is 110 lumens vs 200 for kobalt. Kobalt has a one handed reciprocating saw and this has the wet/dry handheld vacuum. this set is 100$more.

The only positive about dewalt is you know they will be around a lot longer than kobalt. Lowe's has been slowly transitioning their kobalt to craftsman.

Do you have a source for this or are you recycling rumors? The fact is that Kobalt keeps expanding their 24v tool line with a bunch of new tools coming out in 2020. Why would a company spend tons of money on expanding a power tool line if they have intentions of squashing it?

Go to Lowe's and look around. Most of the kobalt line is gone for the craftsman line.

Yup most of the Kobalt hand tools are gone, The power tools are still there. Lowes has said their plan is to replace Kobalt hand tools with Craftsman and grow their Kobalt power tools.
Home Depot owns the store brand power tool space with Ryobi and Ridgid. It looks like Lowes will try to copy them, Craftsman/Kobalt. An uphill battle, but makes sense.

I just think if you want a guaranteed platform get Milwaukee, makita, dewalt. Not in any particular order. Rigid is plain crap. The drills shut off all the time when using them. I can't see kobalt being much better. Just remember you'll need batteries one day and there might not be a way to get batteries. Find some kobalt 12v batteries for the set of kobalt tools I bought 2 years ago. You can't find any at Lowe's.

I agree, red yellow and blue are the safest bet for long term platform support. I think you can find the Kobalt 12v batteries on the shelf next to the Dewalt 12v batteries

No they don't carry 12v kobalt any more. Can't even get replacements from kobalt.
