Getting ready for 25 comments asking if this has a second RAM slot...

I will save you all the hassle, it does NOT have a second slot for RAM. RAM is single channel/slot only.

Dealsfordad, you could do that same experiment with 8gb of ram, and it would work fine.
Trying. Couldn't find any BIOS setting to hide half the RAM, and apparently this model won't boot with only one DIMM slot filled because it started beeping like an angry 1980's PC when I tried unless I was in the wrong slot, but as it is a corporate asset, I didn't want to try again.

I pick up the Motile today, I will do similar experimentation with the actual device. Although my 8GB DIMM doesn't arrive until Monday.

I am currently using a Lenovo T480 W10 Pro with 16 GB of RAM installed. Performance monitor says 57% of available memory is in use. Google Chrome (44 tabs, many code reviews) accounts for 3,287.6 MB of that. Next biggest users are various McAfee processes (required by Corporate). Microsoft Outlook is at 69.4 MB. The Google Chrome process dwarfs them all. I will delete 20 tabs...

Google Chrome process dropped to 2,680.6 MB 50% of available memory is in use. Let me delete 14 more tabs....

Chrome down to 1,917.8 MB 43% of available memory in use. So I only have 10 tabs open in Chrome, plus other McAfee processes running for Corporate security, etc. and I am using 43% of 16 GB. I would save a little under 400 MB if I was not running McAfee.

I like not having to worry about memory. I have just shown it is possible to exceed 8 GB depending on processes installed and somewhat excessive use of the browser for work tasks. I hope 8 will be sufficient for my use, but I have to admit after going through this exercise I wish I had sprung for 16.
I just installed 16GB in my Ryzen 3 and it looks like the GPU upped its hardware reserved consumption from 512MB to 2.1GB per task manager.... so probably only 16GB minus 2.1GB available to the OS.

Anyway, I recommend this Chrome extension:

Your tax rate on this at $199 would be $18.41. More than said person you mentioned. Higher taxes than the person you mentioned, and you pay that everywhere. I live in a blue state but a area that is generally red. My tax on this is $15.12, so lower than your rate by a bit. Factor in the $4 and it bumps it just over your rate. However I pay less every day on taxable stuff than you do if you can figure out the math. And so does the person you mentioned. Laugh it up bud.
lol , Wooosh much? You can't complain about "Commifornia" in one breathe and then point out you spend less for items and services than other states with more conservative state policies. I did the math, which is why I knew his 'Commie tax" was still lower than my southern red one.

thanks
Hi
I am planning to buy this before it is out of stock. Can you please answer the above question? This laptop has only 128GB, but if I want to add more disk space in future, can I do it?

thanks

*sigh*

I really wish some of y'all would read up on application multi-process memory management.

Dealsfordad, you could do that same experiment with 8gb of ram, and it would work fine. Chrome is designed to be able to take advantage of any memory available. If you have 16gb, it's going to use it. If you have 8gb, it is going to use it. You'll still be able to have 30 tabs open with 8gb, just like you would with 16gb.

You'll be fine with 8gb of ram.
The obvious issue is they are are comparing these laptops against obviously better suited computers.

Why does this LEAF not go as fast or as hard as this TESLA????

Somehow their mental gymnastics transformed a laptop comparison of VALUE into a laptop comparison of PERFORMANCE. Sad analytical skills are abundantly displayed in this thread for a budget laptop.

Okay, running Chrome with 11 tabs, currently Chrome is at 1,375.3 MB and 77% of 4GB in use. I think I will be happy to have the 8GB installed.

Really it is insane that this was only $199. Compared to my 4GB Chromebook, this thing performs much better and is more efficient with memory. Plus the display is crazy sharp. And I am happy to have some standard Windows apps back like Paint.

Our school district should buy 100 of these things and get rid of the Chromebooks.

Color me impressed. If this deal is still going I may buy a couple more of them.
