I don't get why people criticize so much about Wells Fargo when all you have to do is get the $400 and close the account if you don't wanna stay. A few days ago there was a deal with a different bank offering $100 for $10,000+ deposit and people were raving about that (1% return at 10k, such a joke). This is 10% return at 4k.
We are not saying you should bank with them for the rest of your life, just get the money and bounce!
Because the recent blow up over WFC is that they had given employees bonuses/goals/quotas and, SURPRISE, employees met those metrics, but by opening accounts for customers without the customers' knowledge. You can't close what you don't know exists!
If you don't already have an account with this bank, I would think long and hard before selling them your personal information for a mere $400. Who knows what they'll do with the data even if you close the account immediately.
You're on easy street if you net $1700 a week on direct deposit.
Correct, it's not so much the amount, but the timeline; where I work it's at least 4 weeks, often more, for a change to take effect. If my employer's HR doesn't act fast (do they ever?), I could be jammed up to have the entire amount deposited in a matter of weeks. Plus, we get 2-week pay intervals so depending on the timing, I could come down to just 1 check has to make it in. Realize that for lesser incomes, it's a huge problem/risk if they get a delay since they will need multiple pay checks to land in there. So much better if they would offer it with a deposit amount and at least 1 direct deposit.

Everyone has their price - for me, they can have all my s___t data, it's everywhere already, so $400 is $400 that I didn't have yesterday, and at least that's better than $0 for my data.
Does anyone know how long WF checking account has to be closed before eligible for this offer? Or it doesn't matter?
I closed by checking account in October 2019.

Only matters when you earned a WF bonus if any:
This offer is for new checking customers only. You must have a valid bonus offer code. You are not eligible for this offer if:
You are a current owner of a Wells Fargo consumer checking account
You are a Wells Fargo team member
You have received a bonus for opening a Wells Fargo consumer checking account within the past 12 months
For those of you who think you'll pocket $400 easily. You'll pocket $400 as easily if you invested $4000 into an S&P500 index mutual fund for at least 1 year to not get charged with short term capital gains tax. You might even do better.
Both S&P 500 index fund and FDIC insured account are the same. Warren Buffet got nothing on you.

Thanks! This is what I was looking for, did it in 2017 and was easy money then.
Paypal, Venmo, Cashapp.
Cashapp would be the best, you can add funds from another bank into cashapp and DD to wells fargo.
Hope it helps
i have PP and venmo but no cashapp.
For pp and venmo, is there a DD function, or do you mean just transfer PP/Venmo funds into wells fargo and they count that as a DD? So basically transfer from main bank account to PP, 4000$, then transfer the 4000 from pp to WF and it would count..?

Good point but somehow I had an uneasy feeling after signing up for the account and realizing they now have plenty of personal info about me. I'm gonna lose a big chunk of this to taxes anyways. I guess I'll cash out and run after I meet their conditions, then repeat next year.

True but every bank is stealing your money with credit cards and loans. "Give me you money so I can lend it back to you "
