I own both the GTX 110 and the GTX 109 (which came out first). These are my go-to shoes for trail running. The 109s have beefier eyeloops, although my 110s are over a year old and the eyeloops are holding up fine. I'll probably pick up another pair of 110s at this price as a backup.
Thanks, OP! I grabbed a pair, which will be my third. No, they're not as durable as a leather hiking boot, but they're super comfortable right out of the box. My favorite pair of hikers in a while. I like that they're waterproof, but if you bushwhack a lot, you're likely to poke a hole in the waterproof layer eventually.
I wore these out in a week. North Face used to be my go to shoes - I just had to expect that 50% of them would wear out after a couple hikes and the other 50% would be quite durable. I would never buy them from a place without a good return policy (which REI has...)
With all the problems from the webbing eyelets. Seems like it's inferior to the north face brand in general I've become accustomed to buying. Maybe a DEFECTIVE design/webbing material, nevertheless stores shouldn't sell these shoes even at a discount. I picked up a pair of TERREX SWIFT R2 HIKING SHOES Adidas is always putting shoes on sale. These are a tad bit lighter than the 110 and just as sweet looking IMO.Have a great day✌🏼
While these weren't the shoes for me, rei has the Vasque Breeze III GTX hiking boots for 50% off too! Thanks for the alert that rei has moved some new stuff into their sale :-D
They look really nice but I'm seeing all the review pics with an eyeloop broken, some people saying as short as 2 months. I prob would have bought em.
Edit - I wound up grabbing pair, thank you op!
As much as I like some of my other North Face stuff...tent, jacket, backpack...I have have pretty terrible luck with their shoes. They fall apart and laces break quickly. I have had 3 pairs and I won't have another. My Solomon on the other hand have all been great.
Bought Ultra109 in 2016, run in the winter but not quite frequently. All threads were torn probably due to the salt, and eventually two or three holes on the sides in 2018. However, customer services were nice, and they replaced it with a new pair.
Would this be good for wearing to work that involves walking for about a mile a day.
Honestly there are probably some better options if you are just walking for work. Dicks has had some clearance deals for a bit now and I don't know what they have left, but I got some solomon trail running shoes for ~$40, but ymmv and I don't know what sort of selection they have online anymore.
