If you find this reduced deal and use this jack to do more than change a tire (only on pavement/ concrete with an aluminum jack) use the savings and to go to harbor freight to get a set of jack stands [harborfreight.com]. Jack stands are a good idea regardless of the jack used if you're going to be under the vehicle or have it lifted for an extended period of time.
With a 14" maximum lift, 1.5 ton capacity should be ample for your needs unless you are working on construction equipment or a car built prior to the 70s. This jack is going to be a "why did I buy this" item if you own a pick-up truck at or above factory suspension height.

using this jack is fine for most cars, just make sure that you use something else besides a hydrophilic system.
Well, 1.5 ton is 3000 lbs. My full-size sedona van is 4500 lbs. Usually a jack holds less than half of the weight since the other side holds more than 50%, not to mention there is a 3rd wheel on the jack side. This should be easy to understand since the center of gravity tilts towards the other side once you jack up the car.
Therefore, the jack is quite capable for my Sedona and definitely for almost all the cars. Of course, on the safe side, use a jack stand whenever possible to counter unexpected (like jack skid/slip, or the wrong underbelly support point etc). But the jack itself should lift almost all normal cars, vans.
Second, mechanical work under the car. In this case, it is possible the jack is put between two front wheels and the jack may take 60% of the car weight. 1.5 ton jack should work on a 5000 lbs vehicle. If you think the margin of safety is slim for a full size van, but the jack capacity already accounted for a safety coefficient of 2. Therefore, I will not sweat for using it to lift the 2 front tires.
