Snails or shrimp might be a better use of this tank. Or it can be used as a hospital tank when you need to treat a fish with chemicals.

As another poster said, take the $15 to Craig's or offerup and get a decent sized tank for your pet. Alternatively, for $20 you could even get the 5.5g or a glass 10g and small filter from petco.
Honestly if $15 is breaking the bank, fish may not be the ideal hobby.
Agreed. Buying the tank and stand is the CHEAPEST part of the hobby. The upkeep, conditioning, livestock, and food will cost you more.
This could be decent for a daphnia tank.
I have a 3gal that has a healthy betta with a big personality. It has a small piece of wood, a few floating plants, ~6 assassin snails, lots of trumpet snails and 4 cherry shrimp. If you're good about doing 50% water changes (every few days for the first couple months then weekly thereafter) I don't see it being an issue. Compared to the containers most bettas grow up in, this 3.5gal will be a huge improvement, go rescue a betta

Finally got it to work, should be better than the bowl my son has his gold fish in.
You just can't go 2-3 weeks between water changes. I have a 3 gallon, its easy water change feature helps ensure I don't skip weeks. While my 55gal can go 2-3 weeks, that one's quite the chore.
