Put the lids in the dishwasher. Some let water into the cap the swished around that got in through the top button somehow.

We've had these for several years now and I can still lift the containers by their lids after closing them. I assume that's only possible after an airtight seal is achieved.

That doesn't mean it's airtight. It means there is enough resistance from the lid to keep it closed. That's not the same thing.

Almost all kids will accumulate some water, I always let them dry out after that, before storing/using them
