I encourage anyone looking to buy one of these to read the reviews and then go look at the Rollo which is only $15 more. The Rollo doesn't care what labels you use and isn't nearly as finicky.

Edit: I'm giving the OP thumbs up in the case that you absolutely have to use a 4XL for whatever reason. It has been quite a bit less expensive in the past ($100-$140) but I keep an alert on these and this is one of the only discounted buying opportunities that's come up in a while.

I used to have the Rollo -- sold it last year when I bought the 4XL for $110 on Amazon. The difference in label appearance is unmistakable -- the Rollo seems to have much lower resolution, so the labels looked awful. Good generic labels for the 4XL are not hard to find (I've been buying mine from Amazon for ~$25-$28 for 880). There is no way I'm going back to the Rollo. I've heard good things about the Brother 1100, but never used it.

In doing some research, it sounds pretty universal that Zebra is the go to brand for thermal printers.

I would highly recommenced not getting the 4XL. The off brand labels, while available, are considerably more per label then labels for a Zebra. Dymos are also no where near as user friendly especially in the e commerce world. Yes, you can get them to work in almost any situation but why not just get a Zebra that's already supported and save yourself the hassle. If your just doing some light work with them and don't plan to try and use them outside of Dymo's own software then go for it.

This is my thinking too if I ever go thermal. Used Zebras seem a lower investment too. Plus, the Rollo isn't that compact as the labels have to go somewhere.

I picked one of these up for a bit more than this deal 2 months ago and it works great. I like that it prints at a higher resolution than the Zebra and Rollo printer.

I prefer the printer to be self contained with no external roll or stack of labels. Plus you can get good quality, generic labels on Amazon and they stick well. (Buhbo DYMO 4XL Compatible 4" x 6" Shipping Label 1744907, White (220 Per Roll)) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...=UTF8&th=1

Even more cost-effective is a used Star TSP800L on eBay for $25 + Shipping, that will print on free UPS label rolls and has an Ethernet option module available. This is the only Star Label Printer that will auto detect a gap in labels, so you can use just about any brand roll. We've used one at the office for almost 10 years and it still works fine after all that time. Parts are widely available to repair these and they are built like tanks.

This is not slick at all. I got one $99 a few yrs ago, just search slickdeals history. By now, $99 should be normal pricing.
